Holy crap put the bong down (though it is legal in Colorado now)

"Throwing his name in" doesn't mean LSU is seeking him and wants him to replace Stud. Our other options will be vetted before we settle for someone with zero coaching experience, I can tell you that much.

Four year starter for LSU, 2nd round draft choice, 6 time probowl, 8 time all pro, 16 year veteran but we'd be "settling" on him.

The ignorance of this board never ceases to amaze me.

im more worried about recruiting. You cant just say oh i played in the nfl and thats it, you snag all the top kids. It doesnt work that way.

You gotta start bringing in the 6'7" 340 guys that can run 4.7s first. And then worry about coaching them up

Our line was the biggest average of height and size in the SEC and all major programs. I made a thread breaking it down before this past season started. You need someone to coach them up. We don't have a problem getting the talent. And as far as all of our big gets @ OL, (like Pocic and clapp) miles recruited. We need someone who can coach these guys up first.

I wouldn't mind this for technique reasons, but we need a recruiter.

As much as we know who Kevin Mawae is, he is not even close to a household name, especially with most of the kids we are recruiting.

If he's hired, we need to fire Ensminger and bring on a stud recruiter/TE coach.

He is arguably one the best to play the position at the highest level, does that mean he can coach the position....no.

If you've been doing something for 16 years, at the highest level possible, and you can't teach what you're doing to someone else, you've probably just been afflicted with some disease that takes away your ability to see, hear and speak.

thats what im saying, you think kids like adoree jackson know who kevin mawae is? No. Some kids that are LSU fans prob do. Hes still going to have to bust his arse in recruiting and travel the country.

You make it seem like we've been killing it recruiting o-lineman

Other than Faulk, Pocic, and Collins I can't remember too many real legit studs. Like offers from every major school in the country studs.

Yea we recruit OK for the o-line, but not that great

shite the last two real studs from LA on the o-line (other than Collins) went to Bama and Auburn

Why would an OL coach be recruiting adore Jackson?

Without googling it; who is the O-line coach at Bama?

If anybody researches Mawae, it isn't even close. These kids want to know what will get them to the NFL. Mawae may know just a little about that.

You obviously did not read my prior post regarding KM. This particular post was referring to is ability to recruit kids by his experience in the NFL only.

No I'm not. I was responding to the guy saying getting size is more important than getting fundamentals down. The guy who coached Peterson, Reid, mathieu, Claiborne... He was a great coach. Wasn't a good recruiter at all. Aside from Peterson, all those DBs that made up "DBU" weren't highly sought after. You need someone who can coach these guys up. I'm saying we are recruiting quality players on the line who aren't being coached up.

This argument is a common fallacy. Just because you are brilliant at something doesn't automatically mean you are good at teaching it.

I had a couple of science professors at LSU who very clearly were some of the smartest people I had ever encountered in my life...and they SUCKED as teachers. They couldn't bring it down to the college student level. Brilliance does NOT automatically = great teacher

Mawae is one of the top centers of recent times, having been selected for the Pro Bowl on six consecutive occasions (1999–2004), and was an eight-time All-Pro. He also served two terms as NFLPA president
Pretty sure he will have some major cred when recruiting.

Andy Dodd was committed to Bama and we flipped him but I guess you don't remember that

Props to Stud for landing him
