I'm sure he would be better than our current o-lineman coach. I guess my only question can Mawae take his knowledge and success on the line, and transfer it into talented players we bring in to LSU. Coach is more than just knowing Xs and Os. Can you manage players and turn them into the players you need them to be.

kevin was a fantastic player, but that honor goes to Faneca.

We also would have accepted Aldolsek, another correct answer.

i was a kid when mawae was at LSU but am pretty much the same age as faneca. faneca was great at LSU but wouldn't most say he was a better pro than college player?
I'd always heard from guys familiar with both eras that Mawae was the better college player.

and we're talking about 2 guys that are probably both NFL HOF'ers so i'm probably splitting hairs.

I agree, we know one thing is true he would immediately command the younger guys attention with his pedigree. imagine the first round picks on the o-line if he is capable of developing talent. he called LSU "CU" for a reason...

Heard him speak at an event last year and the guy was incredible. If he is able to convey his knowledge of the game to our players I think he would be welcomed with open arms.

I don't know......I've always said losing him after the 97 season was worse than if Faulk would have left.

Their whiteness didn't even occur to me. Faneca should have been the first OL to be MVP of the Super Bowl. They gave it Ward because they didn't know who else to give it to.

He is, hands down, the best OL ever to play for LSU. I add Andolsek for sentimental reasons, but Faneca is the absolute correct answer. Mawae is a close second, though.

Looking at college only, I'll take Mawae over Faneca. Mawae was 1st team All-SEC and 3rd team AA left tackle as a junior. When he returned for his senior year, which was a bit of a coup, our idiotic coaching staff moved him to center. He was 1st team All-SEC and a finalist for the Remington. He would have won had LSU had a winning record, but they don't honor offensive linemen on crappy teams.

Mawae could play at an elite level at any position on the line, including the specialty role of center, and was already an All-SEC player as a sophomore. He was additionally a team leader, played his arse off, and was an all-around great person. He was considering coaching material even as a 20 year old.

Kevin Mawae is the greatest offensive linemen LSU has ever had, and his career was wasted on absolutely crappy teams with even crappier coaching. That's no knock on Faneca or Andolsek, that's just how great I think Mawae was.

Considering he is a HOF center, it makes sense he has insight to defensive alignments.

On topic: announcer......hell, I could see him taking it to a high level (ala ESPN).

He will do whatever allows him to positively influence young people in doing the right thing with their life......now, that could point to coaching.

Only he and Tracey know

....as a Soph.....his coming out party was the 1992 Bama game where he worked AA Eric Curry. Curry had 1 assisted tackle. It was epic.

had by far more impact on the field than anyone. sentimental and fact. Big E was downright mindfricking opponents......ask Speilman who became one of his best friends.

if i remember correctly he mentioned something about playing on not so good teams while at LSU. This clearly could be a motivating factor on his dedicating his time to the team like he is doing now.

Agreed, he has tons of knowledge and can relate to the players, he would gain their respect and trust quickly.

Big e was the shite. Wasn't there some story about how he was the only person in Thibodeaaux who could lift a house's framework, or something like that. I'm probably ruining that story.

And I've always wondered why Barry Sanders didn't mention him in his HOF speech. He mentioned almost every lineman who played with him, but not the late Andolsek.

And baloo, Faneca was a first team all American. Love me some Mawae, but credit where credit is due. Faneca outran Faulk regularly.

I know. He was awesome, too. But the only reason Mawae wasn't 1st team AA was A) his team sucked and no offesnive linemen gets to be AA with a losing record and B) he f'n changed position in the offseason and STILL was an All-American.

Mawae was an absolute bad arse. I'm dead serious. Favorite Tiger ever. I understand I'm completely unreasonable on this. But Mawae was an amazing player who bleeds purple and gold.

Halman player, and people thought we didn't have talent before saban.

Which goes back to saying you can't win on talent alone.
