Kelly’s “very open” QB competition is almost here and is expected to be very competitive

Was Charlie Mac the last LSU coach to truly allow QB’s to compete? He had both Bert Jones and Steve Ensminger competing all year against backups, both played in a two QB rotation. Not predicting that with Kelly, but expect the battle for starter to extend into the season. What do you expect?

Guys, Brennan is our QB until he isn’t.

It’s going to be Nuss. He fits Kelly’s mold of QB and has that IT factor.

It amazes me that anyone has an unbiased opinion on any QB. Brennan has barely played, Nussmeier less than him, and Daniels not at all.

Why would anyone have a favorite

I know, and Woodley led the Miami Dolphins to the SuperBowl despite never being a starter at LSU. Is this group that talented?

I just have a hard time believing we trot MB out there. Not after what I saw in the spring game. Nuss seems like the QB I would want to play with. I wouldn’t say he has “IT” yet, but he certainly plays with a level of confidence and swag that I like to see out of a QB. I love Myles, and I am glad that he loves the program and LSU enough to stick around as long as he has, but based on what WE have seen, I don’t see how 13 doesn’t take the first snap. FWIW I wanted Myles instead of Burrow in 2018 opener so don’t call me a Myles hater.

I really hope this does not have to be the case. Ideal scenario is that whoever wins the job to start the season lights it up and excels all year so there is no QB controversy or distractions.

This is the Rant. There will always be QB controversy. Every QB has his fanboys who know better than the coaching staff.

Miami defense carried that team. No disrespect to Woodley, but he only threw 5 TD's that year

You want it to be Nuss. It won't be Nuss, at least not initially. I expect Brennan to start and Daniels to mix in on RPOs/short yardage. Kelly has a history of playing 2 QBs.

If Brennan struggles, then perhaps we see Nuss later on.

We’ve seen a lot of Brennan. Burrow was a mentor. There is no way we don’t test him out of the gates. No way.

Uh, Les Miles final legacy was the QB battle of Jennings/Harris from 2014-2016. Might even include Jefferson-Lee before then.

Charlie Mac
Yes, he alternated an All -American QB. I’d call that great coaching.

We have NEVER had the talent that we now have in the QB room. Damn, it’s a nice problem to have.
