Even if PM is "teaching him", a pitching coach shouldn't be cutting his teeth @ LSU

Catman is 100% correct.

Don't think that incoming recruits arent watching what is happening.. the best program in the country SHOULD be able to hire a pitching coach with experience, knowledge of mechanics and maybe even stood on the mound with a ball in his hand somewhere in the past.

Sounds like a plan.

Grewe is probably a really good coach and all. but anyone that argues that he is a PITCHING coach has a few screws loose.

Yes, in the year 2010 LSU is the defending national champion. Pitching was excellent last year and is down this year (due in part to injury) and the coaches have earned some slack with the fans.

I bet you think Javi's done a bang up job
@ 3rd base this year too
LSU's offense has been very good this year and as LSU's hitting and 3rd base coach he has been a huge part of that. Why is that so funny?

I bet you were one of the guys calling for Saban's head after the UAB loss as well.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here, I'm kind of in the middle on this one. He's been a head coach, had pitching coaches on his staff I'm sure, its not like he just put his head in the sand. But, like yall said, we should be able to get someone with good pitching coach experience. I don't think some people realize how good Rooney was. I think he'll have UCF in the tourney next year.

LINK to where I made this statement AT ALL

I said I do not see how he can mold a pitcher and I will stand by that. I said he has virtually ZERO experience as a pitching coach which is the facts.

I have NEVER stated that this years pitching problems are because of him.

I will say that he wouldnt be my first pick to go and find out what is wrong though and fix it.

Grewe came into a great situation last year. Nothing went wrong and we won an NC, this yr when things did go wrong what happened?

Also the stud pitchers he signed never made
it to campus and we had to scramble for replacements

“David Grewe has made a tremendous impact on our program in a very short time,” Mainieri said. “His work as our pitching coach last season was vital to our drive to the national championship, and he is recognized as one of the best recruiters in the nation. It’s very apparent David is proving every day that he is one of the outstanding young coaches in college baseball.”

So Catman88, when can we hire you to replace the dumbass who said this?

Yea cause a head coach would never speak highly of the people he hired and had been friends with for years..

LSU went from having one of the best pitching coaching in college to having a guy that would learn on the job with nobody mentoring him..

WHAT IS WRONG WITH SEEING A PROBLEM WITH THIS??

No matter how any of us feel, only Mainieri and the players really know if this guy can coach well enough to keep him here. I trust Mainieri knows that answer, and I think he's earned our trust to this point. He's not afraid to take out a senior to input a freshmen, or whoever, whatever it takes to get the job done. He proved that yesterday, last year with nola, and a whole bunch of other occasions. So, that alone should be enough to let him make the decision.

Try to think for a moment here. If you had a high paying job based entirely on results such as PM, would you hire your buddies even if they were not qualified? Do you think PM in dumb enough to do this? If so, how could someone so dumb take two teams to three CWS's and win one? He built Notre Dame into a CWS team before he did the same thing here at LSU. He knows what he is doing and some guy on a message board who thinks he knows better... doesn't.

I will agree with that. I dont think that pitching this year is the result of bad coaching either.. I just dont know that we have a person there that can identify and fix the problem.

That is where I think LSU is hurting.

Well, Ranaudo is finally coming out of his problems it seems(crosses fingers)

Ott reportedly figured out what was wrong with him. If true, why did it take so long to find?

absolutely, if there's one thing about PM, he will fix a problem if he views it as such

Pretty sure I said I didnt know why PM hired him.

ITS A FACT though it wasnt due to his experience as a PITCHING COACH.. Do you have a hard time reading?

Is he a qualified coach?? YES

Is he a qualified PITCHING COACH?? NO and I do not see how anyone with an IQ over room temp can argue otherwise. I do not believe that PM hired him here because he thought he would benefit the pitching staff. I believe he hired him because he is a good coach.

Is it really so hard to believe that PM hired an ASSISTANT HEAD COACH and plugged him into the pitching job?
