Kayshon Boutte is proving all of his haters wrong

“First of all, you have to have your best players buy into the fact that we need to make some changes here from what we’re doing,” Kelly said. “I’m very proud of this entire football team and what we’ve asked them to do up to this point, they’ve done some really good things. But it’s not good for our standard of excellence and that was shown against a very good team in Tennessee.”
“The one guy who really stood out for us was Kayshon, the way he worked, the example he set during the week of practice,” Kelly said. “The first time, from my perspective, show himself as a leader of the football team. We made him captain for this game and you saw the way he played. He played with the kind of big-play ability that many people have been looking for.”
Brian Kelly on Kayshon Boutte: “I made him game day captain because of the way he practiced this week. He, by far, set the standard in terms of how he went to practice. It showed in the way he played. He was faster than anybody. He broke tackles. He was a difference maker. If he plays at that level we’re a different football team.”
quote:
Boutte on the slow start: “I was anxious, getting frustrated.” …says he doesn’t have trouble with his ankle any more.
Kayshon said different teams defended him different ways, but having others step up up vs Florida was huge for the offense.
He’s been getting double teamed in previous games and shouted out Brian Thomas for his game Saturday.
Kayshon Boutte says he’s taking on more of a leadership role for this LSU squad. Says it’s a step-by-step process and being named an offensive captain allowed him to set personal goals in practice.
LSU WR Kayshon Boutte says he’s continued to give his best at executing in practice throughout this season and leading by example.
Says he’s become more vocal. He spoke to the entire offense at halftime vs. Florida.
Kayshon Boutte says he and Jayden Daniels have spent a lot of time together as the season’s moved along.
Felt like the Florida game was great for their connection and can propel them into more success this season.
How many on here said he was opting out after he cleared his Instagram after FSU?
How many thought he was ready to check out when he missed the New Mexico game for the birth of his son?
He’s done the exact opposite to help this offense improve & actually stepping into a leadership role.
Proud of #7 & hope he can have a repeat 300+yd/3TD performance against Ole Miss this weekend.

But I thought Stephen A Smith said Brian Kelly was losing the team?

He said Brian Kelly, he actually meant Marcus Freeman.

The amount of posters on this site that dogged this man…. Y’all should be ashamed

I'll admit I was wrong, and I'm glad I was. I hope he continues this approach regardless of the outcome of the remaining games. He would be a great example for the younger guys and a model for BK as he builds his culture.

In fairness

Yeah, by producing the results we know he is capable of.
Which was the source of the criticism being aimed at him.
Imagine that, when you start playing up to your potential and showing talent, people get off your arse

In fairness, that’s because Brian Kelly said they need to make a change & he stepped up.

This is a guy who has spent the 1st two years in Orgeron’s BS program & the two “leaders” before him opted out in 2020.

Who'd he hear that from. Ryan fricking Clark?

I think Kelly finally got to him and made him realize how great of a leader as well as a player he can be. Goes to show the type of coach BK is and the team culture he’s put in. I don’t blame Boutte, he walked into a toxic culture from the moment he got here. And it’s hard for an 18yr old kid to go against the grain when you’re new. But I’m glad he’s becoming the man he always was capable of being. He has a bright future ahead of him.

I love how Kelly is building that relationship

There were a select few here that couldn’t have been more wrong about him after game 1.
Glad he’s rising above all that shite and here to win games.

Nah you idiot. He's proving them right. We all said he should play better

Proud of Boutte. His teammates need him to bring his all each and every game, and I think we’re seeing that now.
It’s really emblematic, in my opinion, of just how much rot the previous coach cultivated and left in this program.
We all get set in our ways and resist change, maybe that’s what Boutte was working through. Sometimes we need to be made a little uncomfortable before we make a change.
Happy Boutte is becoming the Tiger we all knew he could be.

His hands have not been 1st-round worthy this year, but on Saturday, he looked how he looked before he got hurt. After the catch, he was great. Daniels was also hitting him on time on routes that allowed him to actually do something more than just go out of bounds. He makes LSU's offense so much tougher when he is catching the ball on slants and passes that allow him to make some moves after the catch.

Man, that snag above his head over the middle was like magic. He’s a special kind of talent.
