I have always heard that we have like a whole department or degree program in turf management that would be rendered obsolete if we got field turf. Someone call Jindal and tell him if he is looking for budget cuts in higher education, this would be the perfect place to start.

well, then lets render it obsolete .. because it obviously isn't working if one student that has come through that program over the years can't figure out how to grow grass well enough to last three lousy months and look decent ...

so many fans love tradition. i'm glad they're excited that we'll keep our horrible field tradition up this year

Yeah...it's almost as traditional, and might I add...predictable, as another negative post by you. Is there anything about the LSU football program that you enjoy or respect? Please illuminate us...as we wait for your next missive from on high. Geaux.

Speaking of which, they (UW) has a POS stadium, but a brand new turf surface-how can they afford it selling 40,000 tickets a game, and we can't?

i am fairly sure that a wealthy alum ( cant remember who ) donated 100% of the cost of their turf.

(this is the dumbest response ever)

Correction: Dumbest response is....

"Football is meant to be played on real grass blah blah blah"

Field Turf is in many ways a superior product to real grass especially in the Southern La climate (tons of rain) There are many injuries that are the result of a poorly maintained grass field.

what can we do that's original anymore?

and anyway, we couldn't do anything original other than a new band song b/c then the tradition freaks would rise up in arms

"couldn't they just cover the field till game time?"

When you cover natural surfaces, you need to account for humidity, additional heat etc. If there is condensation, they field will be slippery. It'll be better to let it drain than allow condensation at the top.

When you leave your bagged grass/leaves on your lawn, you may find a patch of yellowing grass. Similar conditions affect this field as well, if you cover with a tarp.

dude...while I agree that our field can look bad (I have advocated in past posts for field turf)...I'm still patiently waiting for sfp to give us insight as to what he does find appealing about the LSU football program. You're obviously not a dummy...why so negaive?

Will the field conditions get as bad as the 04 Oregon State game? That was the worst I've seen the playing conditions get from constant rain. '03 UGA game was pretty bad as well.

The real reason the won't covert anytime soon to artifical is because after 2005 and Katrina when the saints gave some money to change the surface they spent a million bucks on subsurface drainage and all kinds of crap for the field.........I think this is the reason they won't change it, invested money natural.

Drainage isn't the issue.....it's the grass they use as well as the nature of a grass field in general. In wet climates, it doesnt perform well.

force is right.

Then let's just have a fundraiser on the OT-everyone there makes 6 figures, lives in a 4000 sq. ft. house, and has bank >$1 mill.

Seriously, Alleva is trying to raise money to refurb the outside (North Stadium dorms for us old-timers), why not pass the hat for turf first?

They put so much sand under it to help it drain that the grass never took well and it has poor roots, therefore you will see huge clumps of grass being thrown all over.
