re: Just don't like the way Miles leveraged Arky

He was never going to Arkansas. There was no reason to give him a raise and a contract extension. None! Arkansas was a step down not up. If he was going to go anywhere it was to Michigan. Les Miles ain't going anywhere.... Ever!
Many people use job offers that they don't really intend to take in order to give themselves leverage for a raise at a job they love.

what exactly did Miles say?
Obviously he didn't say "no I am not interested in hearing an offer".

how much more money is Miles getting out of this deal?
University hasn't released those details.

I'll post this again...
Its the agent's job to create leverage and then use it.

You have the right to feel that way and its understnadable, but Miles was getting a pay bump this year regardless.

I was speaking more to Joe Alleva than to CLM. Yes of course he's going to try to milk the situation for all its worth but that doesn't mean LSU should give in.

Why should Miles job be any different than you or I?
If company B calls you and says they'd like to hire you and give you a 25% raise, wouldn't you mull it over and see if your company is willing to show you that appreciation?
ETA: None of you would have said "No thank you, I make enough. I'd not like a raise. Goodbye." Don't see why Les is being crucified for seeking to increase his income like any other person in the world.

Well there's always the chance that if you call his bluff he says "frick it, that's a lot of money" and takes off.
I don't blame Alleva at all for giving him a pay bump because it's going to be near impossible for LSU to find a coach as good as Les Miles. Might as well hold onto him as long as you can, at this point.

He was never going to go to Arkansas.

I like miles and am happy he is at LSU. But the way he handled this does not sit well. He leveraged the Arky offer just like he did Michigan a couple of years go. I'd rather he earn these offers via the contract he agrees to. Just my 2c. Flame away as usual.
The speed with which this contract negotiation moved indicates it was already in the works. It may have been pushed up before the bowl for various reasons (recruiting, etc.) but it was pre determined. Miles hit double digit W's again and boom, raise.

why not?
he hasnt recieved a raise since 07 and he has kept the program competing at the highest level year in and year out.
When you excell at your job over a long period of time, wouldnt you expect a raise?

nobody does care what siliconvalley things

It has been in the works since 13-1, but the chicken littles want to hear that sneaky somebitch Les engineered a master plan along with Jeff Long to bleed LSU dry.

It's business; not personal. This happens everyday and I would use to gain more income if given the opportunity. He deserves it anyways. Volume of work deserves more!

Blame on Arky trying to hail mary themselves a good coach.

I'm guessing that this guy still works for his first employer and never gets a raise.
