I was at that game. I was in the Bengal Brass Basketball band that year. We had such a great time that season.

Jose Vargas was a really nice guy. I met him several times and he was very gracious. I shook his hand once. He had the biggest hand I’ve ever seen a parson have. It was like a catchers mit.

Fearsome looking player with huge shoulders but with a tiny waist and very weird looking eyes. Always bloodshot and sometimes yellow.

Watched Jose working out once in the gym & his strength was off the charts. He walked up to the sit down / pull down lat machine, tried to sit & his knees were up past his chest. So he sat flat on the floor, legs splayed wide to either side of the seat, adjusted the weights to whatever the max was & sat there & did at least 20 reps without struggling. Waited just a few & then repeated the reps all over again, a couple more than 20 that time. Every time I saw him, all I saw was those wide open yellow eyes, staring through me it seemed.
