he's not gonna get a dime from any NBA teams, but i guess 70K per year overseas untaxed is attracting him
He would probably be worth double that to a team in Spain, Russia, China, or France.

What money does he get if he's undrafted?
Well, nothing if he doesn't sign with a team. He would sign with a team, but even a 2nd round pick which has no guarantee has a much better chance of getting a contract than an UDFA. If he's undrafted his options are likely the D-league signing with an NBA team making crap money or going overseas and making decent.

needs to stay another year

he'd be wise to leave the door open for return and not hire an agent but that probably isnt going to happen.

I don't think this really comes as a surprise to anyone. That said, before piling on the kid, "leaning" does not equal declared. The decision doesn't have to be made today.
Hopefully for his sake the people advising him are willing to sit down and listen to what NBA scouts feel about his prospects of being drafted, good or bad. The NBA/NCAA does these kids a good service by allowing them to get a pre-draft evaluation without losing eligibility should they choose to return to school. The only silly thing would be being so closed minded that you're not willing to even participate in that process

he can be teammates with Marshall Henderson. In Iraq.

it really depends on what is important to him
if he absolutely needs money....go overseas and make a decent living
if he really wants to be an NBA player, then coming back and working on his offensive game is the better choice IMO

ESPN once said Ryan Leaf should be the #1 draft pick.
Don't believe everything they print, especially "inside sources"

I just don't see how Mickey greatly improves his stock to make much of a difference in his stock, he pretty much is who he is. I guess he could go from late 2nd-UDFA to early 2nd by returning...maybe?
He may as well just begin his career.

yea thats always been my view on him too, could maybe raise his profile a bit if the team does indeed have a great year but as far as his skills and game he's basically already where he is going to be.

now Martin could put himself into the lottery by coming back IMO

Playing for a high profile team next year would likely improve his stock, even if he only improves slightly. I think he would have a better chance at getting drafted after next year than he would this year.

It's settled everyone.

Not really, the average 1st round pick in the NBA earns roughly $1.8 million per year. By his 5th year in the NBA, his potential earnings could be, on average, $3.9 million annually. The NBA doesn't have the restrictions on rookie contracts like the NFL does, and the NBA is definitely less harsh on your body. If someone dangled a multi-million dollar carrot in my face, it would be very hard for me to not take it.
You have to consider that these guys also do it for their families too.
ETA: I'm not saying Mickey is a first rounder. I didn't find any pay scale past the 1st round.

dude got punked by Auburn and NC State and thinks he can handle the NBA?
He needs to develop his offensive game. He has so much potential...

well that's all well and good but he has no chance of being a first rounder. Literally none.

yea, plus their will be scouts for days watching simmons and potentially newman.
some guys are just mentally already in the pros from the day they get on campus. mickey always struck me that way whereas martin comes off as a guy that was keen to experience the college life.
regardeless, it was fun to watch him play, hated how he faded the last few weeks and how it ended for him but he was a major reason we got to the tournament.
