ole miss was the only game he threw for over 200. nothing to get too excited aboot imo
Yards are tied into attempts, and in those 4 games he only attempted more than 20 passes once. Yard per attempt (YPA) is a much better statistic than total (passing) yards.

Those are pretty solid "game manager" type numbers. I'd be happy with that. If nothing else, it shows there will be a competition for the job. Mett's not just going to be handed the keys.

so what you saying is that JJ should do really well against Oregon cause he will have half a year to perpare.
He did good against UNC first game this season. 15-21-1, 151 yards, 2 tds, 153.7 rating.

[quote]You might want to check your stats against time to prepare. He preforms nicely when given more than 1 week to prepare. His problem lies in learning new game plans weekly. Hopefully he has learned the majority of LSU's offense this year and he won't have to learn as much weekly next year. His physical abilities have never been in question. [/
Fault lies in the coordinator/qb coach that doesn't have him prepared in a week as well.

Face it JJ sucks. You are projecting his best games and the stats are still mediocre. He WAS the worst passer in ther SEC last season. 114.7 QB rating with 7 TDs and 10 picks. I only hope that Mett plays so well in spring that even Les cant play his adopted son next season.

I don't think that means what you think it means...it is pretty funny how you used it though.
The word you are looking for is infinitely.
Thanks, jdevers. I'm working on very little sleep over the last few days because of the snow and my job demands.
I sounded like that Damon Wayans character in prison from "In Living Color."

He can play like Brees one game
Lets not go crazy. If he could read the field like Brees we would have the top Offense in the country.

I'll go ahead and say it... If JJ plays more than the wildcat role we will not be in Atlanta. Mettenberger is going to make sure his arse stays on the bench

hell, why choose those when we can just use his last game (and by far the best)
TEAM.........ATT...CMP...YDS...TD...INT...RUSH...YDS...TD
TAMU..........19......10......158.....3......1.......12.........67.....1
prorated over 12 game regular season:
120 of 228 (53%), 1,896 yards, 36 TDs, 12 INTs
144 carries, 804 yards, 12 TD

48 total td :heisman:
BEST EVER

JJ's stats: Don't compare what he did as a soph. Compare them to good qbs in CF in 2010. They are terrible. He doesn't play against himself. The yardage totals are very low, due principally to the fact that he completed a lot of passess for 3 yds to -7yds. A lot of those passes were because he threw the ball where the receiver had to make a herculean effort just to catch the pass, giving the opposing D time to catch up to him. JJ is an athlete who this staff has been trying to turn into a QB.

No doubt JJ picked up his play in the last 3rd of the season.
Who knows what Mett does out of the gate next year, but I'm thinking JJ is pretty much a lock to start next season after his Cotton Bowl performance and the other 3 games he had that you referenced.
I know some here have tried to belittle the Cotton Bowl stats, but a 4 TD performance and the way he managed that game is one of the reasons LSU will have the preseason NR around #5.

Gotta see more. I really don't care who the QB is, and hope the best guy is behind center but my guess is Mettenberger is going to be the best available QB next year.

The running game will determine whether or not we play in Atlanta.
If Mettenberger plays the majority of the snaps, that's one less rusher in the offense, which is fine, but those yards on the ground are going to be crucial to the success of the team.
We only have to replace on starter, and we have plenty of experienced depth. I like our chances.
The passing stats will follow the yards on the ground. JJ's significant stats in the Cotton Bowl were crucial third down RUNS, and 40+ yard bombs on running downs set up by the success we were having on the ground.

As for JJ's rushing stats, it's not necessary to have an actual running QB. We'll have a stable full of capable backs and a stout O-line to carry the rock and make up for JJ's yards.
It's not about designed rushes, it's about needing a QB in college that can make plays with their legs when the pocket breaks down. Every NC team over the last few years has had this except for Alabama. Newton, Tebow, Flynn, etc.

Yes, the rushing yards gained on designed passing plays are the most underrated part of winning championships. Been saying that for years.
Oregon wins Monday if their QB performs better in that area, or if they don't have to rush Newton with containment in mind.
ETA: LSU '05 and half of '06 played handicapped, when JR showed no ability to run on designed passing plays, but by the end of '06, we could have beaten anyone, once JR decided it was worth the risk. It was so effective, that we began to run JR on designed running plays.

Why he sucked so bad at the beginning of the year, I still don't understand.

That's great for LSU and fine with me if it turns out to be a fact.
Mett hasn't taken a snap yet or run the 1st play in a live game for LSU. He hasn't beaten a GT, Auburn, Bama, or TA&M yet.
You "Gotta see more" from JJ and so do I, but I gotta see the 1st thing from Mett in a live game before even thinking he is the best available.

I think you meant to say "We have seen everything that JJ can do"
He is incredibly limited passing the football. One read, then run. And even in his best game of the year, A&M, he overthrew several balls badly and was 10-19.
