Kelly had one of bear of a job to get done here. He needed to fill a roster that had been devastated by attrition and he needed to instill his culture.
He hired the guy that he trusted and knew his process the best to help him do that.

This just isn't true for 70+% of the ST woes. I'm tired of this excuse. We had future NFL players returning punts and whiffing, we had starting OLs false starting because they didn't work enough on snap count, we had good players missing assignments or overpursuing every single game because coaching was so shitty.
We see small programs with much lower quality players than we have on our ST not have the assignment issues and mental errors we had.
We could've absolutely had an average special teams unit last year with the players we had. Instead, it was the worst in our lifetimes.

You’re either not actually reading or being intentionally obtuse.
Kelly needed someone to help him build a roster and install his culture in the program.
No one knows that process better than Polian.
His value was never as a special teams coach. Kelly thought he could do it well enough to not be an issue. He couldn’t so Kelly made the change.
But Polian wasn’t hired because anyone thought he was some elite special teams coach.

Agreed. Polian has been instrumental in rebuilding the roster. Apparently manages the portal strategy for us and that has been a huge success.

What baffles me is how Kelly put up with Brian Polian as long as he did. He was a disaster when in charge of special teams and that's being kind. These two men have some sort of a special bond because Polian should have been replaced during the season. Yep, he was that bad.

Wrong. It literally says Jancek is the ST coordinator.
Plus an analyst can't "handle" special teams because he can't talk to the athletes on the field.

Amen! I fully realize coach's rely on employment to provide, but if you go back and access not just a few special teams issues, you have to conclude he's lucky to have a job. How about fielding punts? The list is long.

Correct. Diaco will coach them up. Jancek will only manage on Saturdays. Plus he’s a pass rush specialist. It’s a win win
