Oh please. Are you really saying that Welter is going to play because he's a senior?

Because we know that Miles and Chief won't play younger players.

Obviously you're ignorant to tigerlee's history of siding with every white player against every black player in any position battle
I thought everyone already knew he was a racist

Lamin Barrow gets some of that blame with the Arkansas & Iowa TE's...not just Welter

Welter had some growing pains...but he was the scapegoat/ lightning rod for criticism...even when the others struggled around him. Lamar Louis did no better when given the chance...but the hate was not there bec their is more patience w perceived athleticism.

Welter had a good game vs A&M too...But it's crickets

Point the finger at somebody...you got three pointing right back at you!

As long as he can improve the terrible run defense last year, I'm good with that.

Could not disagree more, thought Loius looked pretty good when he got reps
Obviously much faster and more athletically gifted than Welter
I think the 3 should be Kwon, Beckwith, and Louis to give us the fastest lb corps in the sec

What the hell? This whole board ragged on Freak hard as hell and still do. Ragged on Barrow, Ego, and Mills. Why do you only think it's a travesty that Welter gets ragged on? No knighting in threads with Anthony Johnson were there? Don't be a hypocrite.

The whole entire defense frustrated last year but for some reason 31 was the scapegoat.
That's actually what you should find funny.
Get it right.

Nobody said 31 was the scapegoat as you are so blinded by your bias to see. Freak was talked about during and after every game. Mills and Barrow (to a lesser extent) too.

Count me a skeptic at this point. Yes, DJ showed improvement at the end of the season. Hope it continues. And I think he caught a disproportionate amount of grief from the Rant for the D's struggles last year. There was a lot of underachieving on that side of the ball last year.

If Chief can turn DJ into a fully functional SEC caliber MLB then I'll be the first to congratulate both. It wasn't that long ago (spring '13?)where Chief was overheard on a video clip telling Welter he was "un-coachable."

Chief doesn't pull punches. I can only recall him acclaiming two players 'in advance' - Brockers and Mingo. And he was proved right on both so if he says it I'm good. No longer a skeptic.

I dont care whom the mlb is. A mlb is only as good in Chavis' scheme as the dt's are. Ego and freak disappointed last year. Sure Welter could have been better, but he wasnt good enough to make up for the ineffectiveness of our dt's.

You obviously didn't see too well because Lewis did almost the exact same thing as welter.... Missed tackles and took bad angles, made more plays in the back field was about it. I agree that beckwith should be out there more though but not Lewis. If welter would react to the ball faster and shed or make the blocker miss he would be much better. He was always in the right spot but would get blocked. It's not always a bad thing to make the RB change direction which he did A LOT..... But someone should be there to make the tackle and no one ever was. So it wasn't just him it was also the safeties and OLB's not doing their job.

Im excited to hear that hes added 10 lbs. He needs to be more physical between the tackles. We have enough speed at OLB and our CB's can tackle to compensate on the edges. Welter is a bright guy and completely understands the Chavis defense. He could become the leader of this unit and a fan favorite if we can just flat out stuff the run. One thing's for sure, all the guys this year are hungry and so are their backups.
If we can get some steady QB play _________________

Yep. This is what keeps me sane because God knows, what I saw last year from Welter didn't do much for me.

That said. On an optimistic note. His primary problem to me was a near complete inability to actually do what he needed to do once in position. IE, generally, he seemed to be in the right place but had no ability to get off of blocks or square up the tackle.

If he's added 10 pounds legit, that plus his experience might translate into many of those "non" plays turning into plays.

I will give him this. He rarely looked lost to me out there and we've had that issue on occasion at LB.
