Its pretty well known around Curtis. I actually had a discussion about it with Coach Jerry at church one Sunday. He described it as JT wanting the players to venture out and expand their horizons

how do you explain most of them ending up at LSU?

Joe M was highly over rated. He shined okay at SC. Great on special teams and prone to big plays (and fumbles). He was money on the winning drive against OSU. Ran for 1000 his last year with injuries. Average 6.4 yds per carry over his three years. But too small and too injury prone for the NFL.

Fournette will be the #1 pick in two years and, barring injury, will live up to the NFL hype. They will use him lots in the NFL and because of that he will last about 8 years, making major bank, being set for life as he plays years 9-10 as a less than feature back somewhere. I see him as a Herschel Walker in the NFL with a slightly longer and more productive career. I wish this young man well.

I saw McKnight at the Susan Park gym in Kenner this week. I don't think he got his degree from USC, so not really sure what the hell he's doing these days.

This. He's been training and trying to get back into football. We'll see what happens.

I'm pulling for him. Apparently he's a nice guy.

Lester did you go to Curtis? You actually seem pretty knowledgeable on the subject. I was a Curtis lifer from pk-12th and went to school with all those nephews. Worked out under Moffit and Fabacher and graduated with Cochran.

U can't compare the two. Chad was going into his senior year when Katrina came. He has a diploma and class ring from st. Aug period.

You must be talking about only the Saban era, because they've only had 3 at LSU since Miles has taken over.

They have 3 players who are starters or making a significant contribution on this years team: Malachi Dupre, Dillon Gordon, Duke Riley.

Yes I am a JC graduate and football player. Class of 1991.

Where am I way off base? You're telling me the difference in him going to LSU and USC is negligible in terms of job opportunities in New Orleans for the rest of his life? He's a high school star, a pretty good college player (that your average fan here didn't really see that much given he played on the West Coast), and a nobody in the NFL. He has 500 career rushing yards and zero touchdowns. He doesn't have a college degree. I don't see how you can honestly think that he wouldn't have more opportunities had he gone to LSU.

I'd like to know why you think otherwise. You're saying my viewpoint is baseless, but I'm at least giving some tangible reasoning why I believe it (i.e. the amount of LSU fans locally relative to USC fans). What's your reasoning based off of?

I have no problem with Joe. I was super butthurt when he committed to USC, but he didn't really lead anyone on. He always maintained that he liked USC and LSU, and even talked up Ole Miss a bit. I think a lot of LSU fans dislike him because that was still during a time where we really hated USC. The split title wasn't too far removed, and both of our programs were consistently in a position to play in BCS bowls. LSU and USC were the top two teams going into the 2007 season, so McKnight going there was, in a way, like Collins going to Alabama. They clearly aren't our rival, but we certainly hated USC during the Carroll years like they were in the SEC West.

McKnight would've been the next Keiland Williams at LSU.

No. I turned 18 in January of my senior year.

I do remember whipping Destrehan's arse a few times though.

Collins and McKnight are the kind of kids that enjoy going against the grain and sticking it in the eye of the people back home IMO.

They went to great programs and were good players. I'm thrilled not having to hear about them much now.

I really despise this kind of bullshite.

If you get satisfaction out of trying to disparage Joe McKnight, I think that is pathetic, but at least try to be somewhat logical about what you're saying and give him full credit on statistics.

Your general logic is extremely flawed because you're trying to discredit what he did in the NFL to make a point about recruiting. Recruiting rankings are projections for college players. Some of the attributes that make players good in college do not necessarily translate to the NFL (e.g., Tebow). Joe McKnight is not the type of every-down back that most NFL teams are looking for, specifically pertaining to carrying the load and running between the tackles. With his size and ability, that's not really his game. He's more of a third-down back/complementary back/kick returner, and when he has gotten the opportunity, I have seen him be very productive in that role. Also, when you look at individual success in the NFL, much of that is contingent upon system fit and surrounding personnel. Overall, the Jets were not a good fit for McKnight, but he still put up good Yards Per Touch numbers for a RB.

McKnight had a complementary role with the Chiefs last year, and he looked good before a season-ending injury -- Chiefs RB Joe McKnight Ruptures Achilles.

As for your attempt to knock McKnight on NFL statistics, the most important thing that you omitted was that McKnight has been an ELITE Kickoff Returner. In 2011, he was #1 in the NFL in Average Yards Per Kickoff Return at 31.6. His Career Average is 28.7. That is #4 in NFL history!
