JL and the critism

I tend to agree that he wasn't overly impressive, but he protected the ball and we beat the shite out of UO. At the end of the day, as long as we win, does it matter? He probably won't win a ton of games for us, but as long as he doesn't lose any we will another championship. Can't we just be happy with that? Ease up Rantards and cut the kid some slack.

we went 11-2 last year, where was the slack for JJ.
gtfo here with the hypocrisy.
yes we won because of the defense and running game.
Lee played well in spots, some perfect throws and some really bad throws. 2 almost where picked off.
I wouldnt call his game spectacular but just steady with some cause for concern.
but stop with the just win shite. nobody was saying that last year with JJ.

Well, let's see...
* The guy was under insane scrutiny from his redshirt freshman year of pick-sixes.
* A lot of his throws were to true freshman receivers.
* He quickly had to step up as starter after the JJ BS.
* The environment of that huge roaring stadium.
* Biggest game of the weekend, on national TV.
* Playing the #3 ranked team, as an underdog.
* First game of the new season.
All of that adds up to one helluva pressure cooker. I would say that he did a great job.
Yes, he had a few shaky throws early on, but he had a lot of passes that were absolutely beautiful. Even more important than that, he seemed to manage the offense well. His teammates seem to like him and trust him. He never looked rattled.
Also, did you notice after that strange QB sneak that he looked like he was about to get into a fight with one of the Oregon defensive linemen? There was some intense jawing going on between them.

He's the QB of LSU. He can take the criticism. He needs to play better. That being said, I chalk a lot of it up to it being the first game on a huge stage for a guy who 10 days prior was not the starter. I'm not saying these are acceptable excuses, only that they temper my views. Northwestern State won't tell us much. But he should be (and needs to be) better against the Fighting Mullens. I'm reserving judgment til then.

I didn't think JJ was great last year, and wasn't as excited about JL as some on this site. The Ore game didn't impress me, but I'm not going to throw him under the bus after 1 game.

Too many throws off back foot. But receivers did not get separation. Clement can't catch shite, Peterson is the starter. I think their DB's are really good or our WR are way down.

Relax this was the first game of the year and we won going away!
Enjoy the win , be a fan,
Amazes me how critical a few people can be after the highest ranked regular season opener...

Except for the Alabama game and the Cotton Bowl, JJ never improved throughout the season. If Lee throws 4 TD passes this year like JJ did last year, he will deserve any shite he gets. He doesn't need to get bashed after having a less than stellar game to start the year against a top 5 team. He didn't panic and didn't turn the ball over which helped us win the game.

I would be saying the same thing if JJ just won that game with the same performance. I just want another BCS championship and if the 92 Bammer Gump approach works, sign me up!

J Lee did exactly what he was told to do. Which is to hand the ball to the running backs and pound the smaller defensive line of the Ducks. He executed the plan that was given to him and that's all you can ask him to do. LSU's offense isn't some complicated spread HD gimmicky offense, it's lineup up and we'll take our strengths and you just try and beat us. They are going to cram the ball down opponents throats and throw on playaction.
LSU fans don't want to hear this, but this team resembles the old Big Ten teams that Les Miles grew up with. Three yards and a cloud of dust with a very physical defense. The only difference is you add some southern speed and this team is all the sudden a national title contender.

PSU2LSU you are exactly right.

Agreed! So let's enjoy the team we have. BTW, if you can't be happy with a win week by week, then you can't be happy.

Hey i read a week before the game on the rant that JL job was to get the ball to the playmakers and not turn the ball over and we would win. well there you go, just as advertised we won. We won before with QB who were not stellar but were able to lead the team not make lots of big mistakes in the turnover department. I think JL turned in an adequate performance and will continue to improve with game time. Practice is one thing game experience is whole another thing.

i think this game will tell us a ton.
1. jj very well would have struggled and kept this game close. (some people on here have forgotten just how bad jj was last year). we'll see what lee will do.
2. hopefully, this game will give lee the chance to gain confidence and a rhythem with his receivers. its kinda hard to start with a game like last week. not surprising his receivers were cold.

And let us not forget, while Lee didn't woo with his effort, UO aint no damn slouch either. They aren't an SEC power but with the exception of Oklahoma, I do not see many teams better.

Did anyone else notice that Bama's two QB's had 4 int between them. AGAINST KENT STATE. Cut Lee some slack and if he plays poorly we will deal with it. The Tiger faithful are never happy unless complaining.

Agree.
I hope JL does great, but I'm so sick of this crap that I'll be glad when they are both gone.
