He was more of the number 3 guy.
And if that is the case, why is he transferring?
Either way he is always hurt and it's better for lsu to look elsewhere. I actually liked him as a player.

Why the hell would LSU take backups when they need experience starters?
Most of what we are losing is developing players, and in many cases, they weren't really working out. You have to bring in some players that have a chance to develop to replace those guys. I don't think we can afford to have an 85 players roster where everyone is the caliber of a starter, but even if we could, there would be a mass exodus after a single season.
