Hopefully Mett will be able to win the job over during the year, but realistically the most I'm hoping for is that Miles gives the garbage time snaps to Mett, rather than JL. There is no logical reason for Lee to ever see the field again. Nothing personal against him, but we're going to have 2 full years of Mett, and he needs the backup snaps.

Y'all haven't even seen him play against our defense in spring ball. Why not just wait...and holdoff on what this kid will accomplish next season.

JJ started even while shatting himself the first half of the season

Half? You are far too generous in grading his performance.

Of course not. I'm not anointing him as anything, but it's a self-correcting dilemma.

If he's good enough to beat out JJ, then we've got a great qb (b/c he's going to have to be lights-out to actually bench JJ). If he doesn't do it, then oh well.

Let people hype him all they want, it doesn't hurt anything - he'll either win the job by great play, or we will continue to have JJ in there. It's not like "hype" alone will cause Miles to put him in ahead of JJ.

If the definition of start is for JJ to start the season against Oregon then anybody that believes Mett is gonna get the first snap versus Oregon is an idiot. JJ is starting the first snap of the first game and will play all season in running packages. Even if JJ loses his starting job he still plays unless Mett suddenly can run under a 5 flat forty time which he can't.

Seniority don't mean squat when it comes to a new OC...

If Mett picks up the offense faster than JJ then the he is done...

I haven't been a big fan of JJ's but hey, he'll get his shot. He deserves it. A fresh approach, a more coherent offense, who knows. But I don't believe he'll start just because he's been starting for two years. Les wants to win games. If after spring/fall camp Mett is obviously better, Mett will start. If JJ is better, he'll start. There's a lot of water to pass under the bridge before the Oregon game.

Careful there...that's an awful lot of common sense and level-hdeaded logic packed into one little post

Agree.
I thought they would do this mix with Lee last year with JJ also throwing 5-7 times on cheating DBs for big gains. That would really have a D confused. Lee never really took over at QB though and there wasn't much deception.

I just see people giving him to much credit, when we as fans havent seen him play yet

I don't know. I agree with those who say that whoever picks up the new offense better will get the nod. You could argue, but I don't think we have any way of predicting how Les and SK are going to mix. If Mett picks it up better and SK sees it, I'll be all if Les argues with Sk and starts JJ. Especially if JJ scambles for one TD, passes for 0, and throws 2 INTs in a loss to Oregon.

JJ will start.. Unless all three of the following happen
1. JJ has the worst spring any QB has ever had
2. METT plays out of his mind during the spring
3. Les dies

He can be good (as witnessed in '09) or he can be bad (as witnessed in '10) or he can be Outstanding (as witnessed against A&M).
I'm perfectly fine with him starting if we can get a little confidence and consistency instilled in the guy.
