Do this: listen to other broadcast from around the country and then make the call.
I listen to Uecker call Brewer games about 120 times a year. He gets excited on pop flys sometimes, but he doesn't blow calls
and I called girls high school soccer games myself bub, so get off your high horse.

Just announced a double play by the Alabama defense on a play where everyone was safe.
Seriously, Hanny has had to teach the game of baseball to him.... It is quite sad..

The difference between Hawthorne and the rest of us is he's supposed to be a professional radio play by play guy and we're not. If I sucked that bad at my job, I'd be collecting unemployment checks.

Thanks Man,
I gave up Hawthorne cold turkey years back due to the screwups, but enjoy hearing the latest versions of Jack Hunt beating UK.

LSU is lucky to have Hawthorne
No.
LSU was lucky to have Hawthorne.
Hawthorne was and to a lesser extent still is an experienced announcer who does this because he loves it. But he is not a pro.
A nation leading program needs a pro.
ETA: BTW, I realize that professionals cost extra money.

Pete, I don't claim to be able to do it better, but Hawthorne is infuriating. I know there are a lot of things to pay attention to, but when I have to listen to him, I bang on the steering wheel at least once a game. I love the excitement that he has for the tigers, but every play when the tigers are losing is the end of the world, and he misses a lot of plays. I'm thinking that he just can't see anymore. Like I said, I'm not sure I could do better, but somebody else could.

"Just listen and enjoy the game."
I agree fully. How in the hell do these people have so much trouble "figuring out" what's going on in a game. This is just a bunch of Nancy's that don't understand sports so they just focus on bitching. Never heard so much whining, pissing, and moaning.

I have a friend that worked in radio in the Indianapolis and Orlando markets for over 25 years as an announcer and still does voice work. She cringes every time she hears him. I sit in Alex Box and wonder what game he is watching. He used to be okay to listen to 11 years ago. Now it is painful
