This was not what we needed headed into the off season.

I'm not optimistic that he starts next year, but theres nothing wrong with that.

AJ did piss me off when threw the ball without properly putting his hands on the laces. I saw thus happen twice.

Maybe it is what was needed. Many people had too high expectations for him IMO. Let him grow.

There were some people (BigEd) calling for Jennings to replace Mett earlier this year.

Too high expectations are probably worse than too low expectations for a young guy.

He didn't have a good game, but we saw no roll outs, options read plays, QB draws, etc., that really worked to what we think he can do.

We had the option at the goal line that he ran in successfully and there was a nice option pass to the FB that I really liked, but I think Jennings might have misfired on it if I remember correctly.

I think the coaches could have done much better with the play calls and I think Jennings could have taken off a few times and not been so flat footed in the pocket. He didn't help himself and the coaches could do better. Hopefully, that will happen next year. He's had one great performance under pressure and one bad one.

He absolutely will get better. His accuracy, pocket awareness all will improve with every snap.

Not that it will matter, it seems like Miles has some affinity for mobile QB's.

maybe if we were up by 28, but, remember, who would back him up? it was too close a game to gamble w/ him getting hurt on a running play.

When I say roll outs, I mean we didn't move the pocket by rolling him out and letting him try to pass in a way that might have allowed him to hit his target better than sitting in the pocket (because he didn't do that well today).

Same thing with option read plays - it doesn't mean he carries the ball much, but it makes the D unsure of what is happening and you can pass off of that as well.

When you're playing football, you don't play with the thought that your guy might get hurt on this play or that play (remember, one of our scores was on an option run by Jennings). You try to put him in the best position to succeed (along with the team). And he didn't have a good game anyway, so if he would've gotten hurt, it wouldn't have been a major issue based on the lack of production we had. He's young though and it's a tough position. I'm just saying we didn't do a lot to help him out. I don't even recall any screens or plays like that to get a completion and build confidence.

Shea just posted a pretty good article on 247. Players said while Jennings didn't have the best game, he kept the players into it by coaching them up after every drive.

We get a QB that puts a little air under the ball and he hangs it so much that it allows everyone to get to the ball. He was throwing over up close and under far away. You can't make mistakes like that pick six and win all the time. 7 passes completed and only 2 each to both 1000 yd receivers. Not what will win games next year.

I will say that he got the plays off in time and all those things which a lot of QBs fail to do. He did that well. He didn't fumble any snaps, etc. He was just off with his accuracy (which happens... plus it was wet). We just needed him to move around a little more next year and run or throw it away when he can't find anyone.

OK, OK, but he made up for it when he did the
"T-Rex" after running in for the TD! Did anybody
catch that move?

Me too.

but there definitely needs to be an open competition for the QB position during the spring.

Absolutely, and there should be. There's some talent at QB.

I can remember a couple of other young QBs looking pretty awful in their first extended play as well. Remember Flynn and Rohan?

7/19 (37%) 82 yards. Pick 6. 19.7 QBR

With 2 of the best WRs in the game, against an unranked opponent

It will not get much better. Sorry
