He’d probably at least care and try unlike Mainieri.

There's a reason he's still living in Eunice, La and coaching D2 Juco ball

J-Dub would be a great head coach for LSU. That wouldn’t be a “name” though. LSU fans would probably riot.

It will never happen but it would be the best thing to happen to the program. Dude is an absolute winner and former players “many that moved on the LSU” swear by him and would take him over Paul any day. No one knows the truth about the baseball program behind the scenes. We need a change BAD BAD

And why’s that ? Many of his players have moved on to DI included LSU. OLE MISS AND SO ON. he’s proven to be able coach kids and get them into championships, regardless the amount of talent he gets in. So tell me Einstein why’s that a bad idea

Because he wants to be there. Dude has had many offers in the past. He’s perfectly content in Eunice.

I'm going to have to disagree with you here. My son played for him and I know a lot of other kids that have. Not many would give him a glowing report. His biggest draw is that he's in a fertile recruiting area and LSU uses it as a feeder. He is a mind-melder and an autocrat. His record is definitely impressive but his methodology wouldn't play well on the big stage IMO. Again, there's a reason he's making beans and living in Eunice. Some will disagree and that's fine. I'm certainly just sharing my opinion but it is based in personal experience

He would change the culture. We need a culture change. You think Bertman wasn’t an autocrat. We have the most entitled softest team in D1. Just like our coach.

Bertman was hard but the players loved him. Willis is hard and half the kids can't stand him. Those two guys are not comparable. Do you think that we are the only people that know about Willis? Do you know how many D-1 jobs have been filled since he got to Eunice and started winning big? Again...he's not a hidden gem. He's where he needs to be. Again...just one guys opinion.

Just wow. The rant is alive tonight. This guy wins in D2 JUCO against other schools who have extremely limited recruiting capabilities. He is thriving where he is and is the definition of a small fish in a big pond. Former players hate him because he is an a-hole.

Sure, manieri has worn out his welcome, but damn you people are ridiculous and love to stretch.

I've wanted Jeff Willis to be the head coach here for years. I've posted it on this site before. Woodward shouldn't be concerned if the uninformed fan doesn't know who he is. Who the heck knew who Skip Bertman was? How many people knew LSU even had a baseball team, back then?

Just hire the best available and qualified candidate. Someone in this thread made the remark that there's a reason he's still coaching D2... Yeah, there sure is... He's also the athletic director there. I bet if LSU offered him the right price, he'd jump at the chance. Being a D2 coach has nothing to do with anything. He's coaching on the same level as everyone else he's facing, and has dominated for a long time.

Wayne Graham was a legend at San Jacinto before he went to Rice. Seemed to work out for him. If Wayne Graham had the resources LSU has, he'd have been even more successful. I think Willis is a very similar case, and would be a home run hire.

Coach Willis could very easily win at LSU. His aggressive style of play builds and keeps momentum though out ball games. As far as his players and former not liking him I would beg to differ. Players that make it through the program love the program and Jeff Willis is the program. Dude just wins and works his arse off to do so.

If you are going to pull a JUCO coach with Louisiana ties...you better go to New Orleans and grab Joe Scheuermann! Kids love him...he can recruit and he is a winner!

I think Blake Dean would be the first call they make right?
