I think that was just LSU’s way of announcing that most if not all players have taken the $600 and declared for the game.

Exactly. In the past, they did this because they couldn't put current players in the game.
But now that they can put current players on the cover, it should be a current player and not last years heisman.

They are going to put a current player on the cover unfortunately as a business decision. People like to play with the cover players and now they actually can in a CFB game.

Actually, why did I type all this nonsense out? The cover has almost always covered a would be NFL rookie, one that made some major impact over the course of a career or the last season he was in college.
Jayden Daniels should be on the cover, or you should be allowed to pre-order your cover from a list of influential players over the past decade. I'd love to have one with Daniels and Burrow on it if they did that. I'd be pissed for them to put Saban on the cover. Maybe wait til there is an actual anniversary one or make it an alternate cover.

Honestly it makes far more sense to release a game with teams rated from the last full completed season and with those players. Then, it’s accurate.
Trying to predict who will be good and which teams will be strong would be about as accurate as, well, preseason rankings.
