wild claims about the amount

Didn’t realize I quoted a number but I think we all know that LSU is a leader in the NIL space in baseball.
Much like Texas in football, you don’t have to see contracts in writing to know why they just so happen to pull a ton of the best talent in recent years.
Name another baseball program that’s had the portal impact LSU has? Tennessee a little, A&M paid Montgomery a lot of money, Florida and Wake have snagged some high profile pitchers. But nobody has had the influx of portal talent LSU has gotten when Lipsey decided to cut checks from the gun store account

Well yeah. You can’t really do much better than winning a title.

You chalk ALL of that up to NIL though and not Jay Johnson being a great recruiter and coach. That’s what’s confusing when you don’t have any money figures to back it up. If it was all NIL, then we wouldn’t have missed on Payton Tolle and Maui Ahuna and Cannon Peebles, right? Surely we could just write a fatter check.
The fact is, all big time college baseball programs have healthy NIL budgets, great facilities, and a lot of offer. It’s not 1998 where only LSU is on TV on jumbo sports network. Or only 3 other SEC programs even care about baseball.

Put the shovel down and move on. You can’t give CJJ all of the blame and none of the credit. We had to replace six of our nine most reliable starters, including the top two(!!) draft picks from last year, started 3 true freshmen down the stretch and made a real run to close out the season. While it wasn’t the best we could have hoped for end to end, the finish was very encouraging. We will be back to bigger and better games more often than not with CJJ at the helm.

You're a fricking idiot. It's not easy going back to back and to get in position to keep doing that is an accomplishment. This team could've been at home right now instead they fought to not only get in a regional but to get a 2 seed. I'm proud of how they continue to compete despite how it ended. How would you like to be Arkansas right now? Or Arizona...Oklahoma St or Oklahoma? We will be fine but you gotta give the man a chance. This isn't football. And that's where I think some of you get it twisted.

You must be really down on the other sports

I saw very little development into this season.
They went from 3-12 to almost winning the SEC tourney and two outs away from hosting a super.

Van Horn are great recruiters and program builders with consistent high level performance too.

Van horn couldn’t win a regional at home where he also had leagues more talent than the teams that beat him.

He bought Tommy, Skenes, Hurd et al and Vitello tampered with Ahuna and landed him. I never said we have the money to get them ALL. Even Texas doesn’t get them all in football.
I’ll say this: aside from the players Jay bought, he hasnt developed better recruits he’s brought in the last 3 yrs than what he inherited from Maineri/Cain. They also had guys like Jace Lavoilette committed at LSU before it ended.
No excuses for Jay. It’s year 3 and he wasn’t near good enough this season collectively, especially given the resources at his disposal. Maybe he builds a monster program but it’s a tone deaf post in light of tonight’s end to a miserably underwhelming season.

What do you think about the current state of other sports at LSU?

quote:I would say the 2024 class is big from the perspective of getting some non portal position player producers on campus. Of the high school players he’s added to the prior classes it looks like Shores, Johnson, and potentially Noot are the biggest contributors so far. Kucharek could develop, but most of his position players have washed out quickly or were signable and never made it.

ETA: I’ll throw Brown in also. Even though he was inherited I don’t think anyone expected him to be an outfielder.

Certainly the optimistic view. They also played the worst teams in the conference aside from A&M in the second half of the schedule and barely secured a berth. Bottom line is they lost their regional this post season.
Kling busted. Frey was his best pinch hitter with a .230 avg and 0 bombs. The Arizona kid hit .250, 100 pts lower than a year ago when he was All PAC12. Larsen faded the last month. Peason’s average continues to drop through the years. Catcher went from a strength to a weakness. Neal went from day 1 starter as a true freshman, to strikeout city this year. Jones has a good postseason but most of the season he was an easy K for competent arms. Bradwells bat improved but he led the league in errors and it’s not like he ever raked. Hurd went from top draft pick to not being able to be trusted against midweek teams. Coleman regressed. Ack wasn’t as effective. Etc etc.
Jays best players were the ones he bought. Holman, Jump, Tanks. Herring was the only one that really improved. Milam was solid freshman with plenty of ups and downs.

Agree on the hitting part but timely pitching injuries did them in

Football is the only other one I care about and it’s as good as it can be right now. Kelly did have some growing pains with his staff/hires but he’s figured it out now. His on-field coaching is better than Jay’s imo.
The biggest difference is that lsu is not a leader in football when it comes to NIL and that’s hurt them in the portal. Tiger Baseball has proven to be a leader in NIL when it comes to the portal.

Thanks for the response.
Is there a source for NIL information? I’ve been trying to find how LSU stacks up against other schools in that department and besides seeing people just post stuff about it, I can’t find anything about LSU’s baseball “payroll” for lack of a better word compared to anyone else.

No, it’s a fact. You said you saw very little improvement, which is objectively wrong.

An easy K? Jesus, man. Go to bed.

You’ll never find it as it’s pretty obvious they like to keep that stuff pretty private. Much like every school. You’ll hear about A&M paying a recruiting class $30M, or Tenneaeee paying a QB 8 figures, etc.
Byt I’ve never heard anyone on the record that is one of the direct parties speak about any of it or show contacts or documentation. It’s all hearsay but it’s not hard to follow the smoke and make some pretty easy conclusions.

LSU is always going to be a contender with Jay so not worried about it.
