Jay Johnson and players speaking with media before first fall practice

I’ll continue to post updates
quote:
Mentions that Tommy White is mostly working at third base and that Tre Morgan is doing some work in the outfield. Javen Coleman is doing some light throwing.
quote:
Johnson: “I will be coaching 3rd basemen, shortstop and second basemen this year… they probably wish I wasn’t” Dan Fitzgerald coached infielders last year, Johnson started helping out midway through
quote:
Johnson says that Gavin Guidry, Paxton Kling, Mic Paul bring athletic element as runners & defensive players… Tre Morgan fully healthy, Josh Stevenson, Josh Pearson have made strides. Says Brayden Jobert put a lot of effort into improving himself as defensive player
quote:
Johnson: Thatcher Hurd is 100% and will throw this weekend. Alex Milazzo is also a “full go.” Added that they finally got to the “root” of what was wrong. #LSU
quote:
Crews says Paul Skenes is “unreal” and that Ty Floyd & Blake Money have gotten better
quote:
Paul Skenes: “Everybody is so nice here.”
quote:
Skenes: Said he tried to practice hitting and pitching on the same day last year. “I don’t know how Shohei Ohtani does it.” #LSU
quote:
Skenes: “I entered the transfer portal because I realized I had a real shot at a career in baseball…” said that being in the Academy, they could still make him serve in Air Force if he went on to the minor leagues and such after

This doesn't compute. I was told on the Rant that Johnson doesn't focus on defense.

Paul Skenes said that he came here his freshman year and it was the “coolest baseball experience” of his life— he’s from Orange County, this is his first time living in the south, says everyone is really nice

Hurd being 100% is huge news. They should baby the hell out of him.

The guy in the background is how I imagine every single braves poster on the MSB.

Obviously this most likely won't be the opening day lineup but I think this is our best group on paper.
1B Tre Morgan
CF Dylan Crews
3B Tommy White
DH Paul Skenes
RF Josh Pearson
LF Paxton Kling
2B Gavin Dugas
SS Gavin Guidry
C Brady Neal
Reserves: Jordan Thompson, Alex Milazzo, Josh Stevenson, Braden Jobert.
Fri: Thatcher Hurd
Sat: Ty Floyd
Sun: Paul Skenes
Relievers: Christian Little, Grant Taylor, Blake Money, Jaden Noot, Cale Lansville, Sam Dutton, Bryce Collins, Nate Ackenhausen, Aiden Moffett, Chase Shores, Griffin Harring, Riley Cooper, and Kaleb Appleby.
That is way too many options in the pen for us not to be able to find 3 starters and 5-6 consistent arms for the weekends.
Plus no matter how you spin it, there will be starter level fielders on our bench.

I’m going to the scrimmage. I will relay what I can. It’s going to be a while before I get used to the new names/faces/numbers but I’ll still try to take what notes I can.

I hope he keeps the quick hook. If a guy doesn't look like he has it, get him out and see if the next guy has it. This method stops one bad outing from ruining the game for you. If he was able to have a quick hook with limited options last year, he should definitely be able to do the same this year with better success.
I guess we will find out if the quick hook was a Kelly thing or a JJ thing. Maybe Wes likes to give his guys a chance to get settled.

I was told Jay made every decision in that regard.
