Jay lives another day. The rant is just waiting for a chance to fire him.

how so?
Shores got 2 different double play grounders that we didn't turn which gave them their 2 runs.
wasn't because Shores wasn't pitching well.

giving any team the level of Arky 2 extra outs in an inning will cost you more often than not.

We can second guess all we want.
If it works it's great coaching.
If it doesn't then he choked or it's bad coaching.

At least that is what the narrative usually is

There is not a single one of you that would be saying he handled everything perfectly had Arkansas not gifted us the game in the bottom of the 9th.

He played this like he was in desperation mode in an elimination game from the 6th inning on.

He pulled Cowan too soon. Cowan should have been trying to finish 7 full innings at the rate he was going. Then he pulls Noot too soon with the thought process of asking Shores to get us the last 8 outs. Trust me, this was his plan. Who is he Mariano Rivera all of a sudden? Then he inexplicably asks Mayers of all people to snuff out the fire. Sheesh.

We gave up 4 more runs in just 3 2/3 innings of relief and y'all call that playing it perfectly?

Y'all some clowns.

I mean, it's like he is a really good coach or something.

Luck is part of the game.

Even if we had lost, he would have had both Anderson and Eyanson available to punch out Arkansas against just their pen.

Yesterday was always going to be the tough one for us to get through after losing Evans to the rain delay, but he got it done. Cowan was nails, Shore and Mayers did enough and here we are.

DVH tried to recycle arms late and it burned him. Gaeckel and Jimenez both looked off and not their best and we took advantage. Jay did the better job.

Think about this from a different perspective.

Holding Arkansas to 5 runs (4 earned) in a game using zero of your top 3 pitchers is pretty good. You would literally take this result 100 times out of 100. The problem, and thus the need for a miraculous comeback, wasn't the pitching, it was that our batting didn't get much of anything going until the 6th inning.

If I had told you before the game that Cowan, Noot, Shores and Mayers were going to pitch the game, and then told you they'd have no walks, 11 K's, and only 4 earned runs....is there any scenario on earth you wouldn't take that result? If so, you are the clown.

His decisions netted us giving up 4 runs in the last 3 2/3 innings with a starter still going strong that gave up a long fly ball that left the park only because the wind was blowing out. His only blemish. He got pulled after a weak ground ball found the outfield due to overexaggerated shift.

The score was 1-0 Arkansas when he started to panic. Nobody envisioned us scoring 6 runs in the last 4 innings.

The offense saved Jay's butt with these dubious coaching decisions.

Thank God we won, but it sure as hell wasn't because Jay Johnson pulled all the right levers.

Pulled Noot too early. Mayers should have started the 9th.

well if we're taking away "gifts"
had we not gifted them 2 runs in the 8th, Eyanson comes in the 9th with a lead.

That’s BS. So coaches get lucky because the offense (that they put together) scored runs? Dumb very dumb way to look at it.

I started a big thread advocating for not throwing Eyanson, Evans, Anderson yesterday to save them for the championship (and had replies chewing me out for suggesting Eyanson wouldn’t come in yesterday)

But let’s not kid ourselves

Had Arkansas turned that double play in the B9 no one would be saying that and agreeing with that right now. We’d be throwing Anderson tonight and closing the game with Eyanson if we had to in order to secure the win and would be like 2023 where Anderson wouldn’t be available for the finals

Exactly. We have Arkansas 2 runs in an inning that had two easy double play opportunities.

Every team does this in the final game. It’s nothing new and would not have been a knock against Jay if we did it. So I’m not sure what the big deal is.
