He flew up the scouting ranks for the Yankees. He must know how to evaluate. Good for recruiting. Can he teach? I don't know and I'm not sure who does.

I believe he was strongly encouraged to seek other opportunities, that he wouldnt be guaranteed a spot in the fall, but could compete for one

I, for one, want to thank Javi for his years at LSU. Best of luck to him in his future endeavors.

Yeah, but celebrating him leaving is like sooo much cooler and everyone else is doing it!

He's been a huge part of our success under Mainieri. Like others, I believe we can do better, but to act like he's done a disastrous job is downright laughable.

Why would he fire him now? He's kept him all this time. He was PM's pet.

Yeah no way PM fired him. Especially after this recruiting class which could be the best we've had in years. Javi got way more crap than he should have and not nearly enough credit. Good luck to him.

He did some private instruction after pro ball. He's well known in NOLA area. A guy that knows what to look for as a scout, can usually teach the same principles. Just my opinion

Javi was a hell of a recruiter. We need someone who can excel at both crootin and the instruction of hitting. And maybe someone who can teach the art of running bases. That'd be great too.

Didn't know about the private instruction. Good to know. Lots of guys do that for a little extra on the side after playing. Tough to read much into it. Like I said, I really just don't know.

You know what is the best recruiting tool? Alan Dunn. He isn't rah rah or dynamic, but he sits down and says, all I do is maximize pitching. If you want to learn how to pitch and reach your potential, come play for me. Works like a charm. If you can coach, pumping guys into the draft in high slots is all you need to be an ace recruiter.

Agreed. Though, I think the baserunning is also byproduct of PM's aggressive mentality that he instilled on the basepaths from the very beginning. Plenty of head-scratcher plays, but plenty of times where aggressiveness has paid off. I am a bit puzzled by our lack of base stealing with our team speed.

Laird just learned how to steal bases in summer ball. He's leading the cape in SB.
