ready4something.... Yeah, that's a good point you brought there, I guess I should have thought about it more before I opened my fat yapper, haha... I was just trying to say that I dont think any of our other reciever's ( at the moment) are as good as DB and BL ( if BL doesnt drop anymore this year, knock on wood). But BL did show tremendous improvement in the second half of last year, thank god!!!

Terrence Tolliver WR 6-4 195

Jared Mitchell WR 5-11 201

If that didn't do it for you, the fact TT played more than Jared Mitchell as a true freshman elevated him in my opinion. J. Mitchell had his oppurtunity to be the #2-#3 guy when Early went down, and we all saw how that went. This is a new year and I know he is eager to prove himself on the field.

If size were the only contributing factor, steve smith, josh reed, and trindon wouldn't amount to anything. Also, a player like Mitchell could have gotten alot better in the offseason, and I know it seems like I am being hard on Toliver, but he didn't have as good a freshmen year as I would expect someone so highly touted, hopefully he gets much better for this year

josh336... yeah, im not going to lie, it does a little bit. I mean it's nearly impossible to not expect great things from the #1 reciever recruit in the country... But way more so, just on the fact that he looks more fluent....... And I dont know if I'm smoking crack, but it looked like TT upped his size 22 pants when I saw him at the LSU Fan day. I'm not talking big yet, but he does have 2 years of growing left...

Just think Tolliver performed without really knowing the offense as a true freshmen. Imagine him now with a year of experience under his belt. I still like jared mitchell on the bubble screens and underneath routes because he seems more agile and quicker.

I don't remember Matt Mauck throwing to Mark Clayton very much that year.

Both will see the field and speed is what makes a deep threat, Height usually makes a great possession reciever and it's more likely they make TT into that role and JM more slot guy.

2003 Receiving Statistics
NAME REC YDS YPR LONG TD
Michael Clayton 78 1079 13.8 66 (TD) 10
Devery Henderson 53 861 16.2 64 (TD) 11
Skyler Green 48 519 10.8 40 (TD)

I misspoke michael vs mark. He had a great year connecting with Mauck. I would say he was his go to guy.

I think TT is definitely the better player, but I've always liked Mitchell because I think he has a lot of ability he just needs to harness it. But people saying they like TT because of his height for deep balls need to realize something...we don't have a QB with a strong arm (unless you say JJ plays a lot and he most likely won't)

Even with Flynn we didn't throw it down field that much so I really wouldn't expect to see many deep balls this year.

Hatch can get it down there and J-Lee can flat out chuck it. I don't see where everyone is getting the "we don't have a strong armed QB" shite from. Maybe not compared to JR but, at the very least, on par with Flynn/Mauck.

You're right. I didn't even realize our lack of deep passes last year. I'm sure all of our qb's have to have an arm though, probably not a bomb, but atleast have to be able to throw 50 yards or so...

Well hell, you can't compare any college qb's arm to J-Russ..... freaking 50 yards on his arse, 60 yards on his knees and 85 standing up.... just sick

Byrd is our "deep" threat and Lafell and TT will be possession recievers. JM is not a guy that will line up on the outside a lot. He's a ED type of WR that will play in the slot. I think TT rotates more with Lafell or Byrd then he does with JM... IMO

That being said, both are great athletes that will do great things at LSU.

If LaFell continues to spend more time at the slot position, then to me the third receiver has to be Toliver. Mitchell himself is more of a slot guy, but if you have Byrd on the hashes and LaFell in the slot, it would make sense to have Toliver at the other wideout position.

I agree with this. Haven't been reading the practice reports. Is LaFell playing a lot in the slot position?

Having a player like Brandon, who can split out wide or play in the slot is an asset and why I think both Toliver and J.Mitchell will both get plenty of plays. You can, as you say, put Mitchell in the slot with LaFell out wide, or put LaFell in the slot with Toliver out wide.

And that doesn't even mention 4 WR sets.

Everyone on here sniffs Byrd's jock and he is dynamic. But LaFell's utility makes this WR corp lethal.

If Tolliver can learn how to run correct routes so he doesn't go one way and the ball go the other straight into the hands of a defender, he will be the better WR.

A lot of that was due to freshman mistakes, I understand, but he made huge mistakes in both the SECCG and the BCS game resulting in interceptions. If he has his routes down, he will be a great one.
