Ja'Marr Chase was the 84th ranked player in the 2018 class and the 15th ranked wide receiver in 2018. We have the 3rd ranked wide receiver in that same class (Terrace Marshall) who is a great talent. Take those two out and there are not 13 other receivers better than Chase currently. Rankings are flawed.

Rankings are just potential projections.

Les Miles wanted Chase as a DB. So yea, people evaluate differently

They are usually pretty good at evals. They can’t necessarily give the same eval time to every player so they tend to miss out on some kids. And they don’t really evaluate them on character and work ethic, just physical talents and measurables.

Looking at those rankings there is no way we should ever beat Bama. Fact: Every game Saban loses, he loses to a team with less talent.

I posted this a year or so back.

Pretend each college football team's 25 signees represents one shot on a basketball court.

Your shot attempts break down as follows:

5 star= layup
4 star= free throw
3 star= 3 point shot
2 star and below=half court shot.

If LSU were to have a basketball shooting contest (basing their 25 attempts on each recruits star rating) against Wake Forest doing the same, it's possible, but HIGHLY UNLIKELY Wake could beat LSU. LSU would be shooting a couple of layups, plenty of free throws, and some 3's. Wake would be shooting a free throw or 2, a handful of 3's, and plenty of half court shots.

That is as good of comparison as I can come up with concerning star ratings. They're not the absolute law, but they matter A LOT.

Ja'Marr Chase was brutally underated by everyone except 247sports. 247sports had him rated as a true 5* #19 overall and rated as the #4 receiver in the class.

I hope Chase goes down as the GOAT LSU receiver, but it is going to be hard to top this past season.

LA high school football doesn’t get the respect it deserves.

I guss It’s because the talent is so spread out as we don’t really have to 3000 kid high schools like some bigger states have.

But still.

We consistently put out elite players and if you’re balling out in high end Louisiana football you’re probably going to be pretty decent.

Louisiana produced 4 of the 11 WRs in terms of Receiving TDs.

Yeah guess what, the first WR in the draft isn't always the best one either. What the hell are you expecting, perfectly accurate rankings somehow?

In all the recruit ranking websites defense it's hard to measure ball skills. That is what sets Chase apart from other receivers he has amazing ball skills.

247 ranked him at 4th overall and as a 5 star prospect. The composite had him at 15th. I think 247 was much better on their projection of his talents.

I forgot CeeDew Lamb was born here.

But I cant Really account for him being under recruited because he’s from Louisiana as he went to High School In Texas and it’s not like Texas players are ignored (despite Texas, A&M, TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech, and SMU all underperforming)

His high school was also enormous.

Now do Stingley.

This is an awful example to claim rankings are flawed. He was a top 100 player. No one looks at recruiting rankings and expects players 1-100 to be ranked exact in their order of impact/how good they will be.

You look at a top 100 prospect and think there is a decent chance that player will become an impact player at the college level.
