How would it be the dumbest? He will still be a 1st rounder next year unless he gets fat or gets into legal trouble. The much bigger risk would be to play and run the chance of injury or a bad season.

Huge bummer for us fans but try to put yourself in his position. If you were in a situation in your career where you could potentially lose out on millions of dollars, would you do that? I know it's a cliche when players say "I have to do what's best for my family" but it's actually the truth.

Smartest move for him. Hate saying it, but it’s true.

Here’s the thing, if it’s the smartest move, there is no reason for any top 10 pick to ever not sit out their junior year and “prepare for the draft”.

Has there ever been any circumstances like the ones universities and student athletes are facing today, no. I don’t see this becoming a normal concern. There are some Top 15 players who don’t even know if they’re playing this fall. I hate saying this, but why go to class if you can get paid in advance and prepare for your career.

Nothing is guaranteed. He could lose millions by opting out and falling in the draft especially if guys that are playing improve their stock. He could go from Top 10-15 to late 1st/early 2nd depending on how the year plays out. Opting out does not automatically cement his position on NFL draft boards. Going 20 months without a game rep is still a risk.

It def is still a risk and GMs will take into account him opting out, but the only thing he really could gain from playing was solidifying his status which was already understood that he was the best WR and possibly Top 5 pick.

Chase is a good player but now he has to sit at home and hope that guys like Bateman, Ross, Waddle, D Smith, Wallace, Olave, St Brown don’t improve their status and vault him while he has no opportunity to build or maintain his status.

Because he risks dropping from what would have been a guaranteed top 5 pick in the draft had he shown that he could replicate or even come somewhere close to replicating the production he had a year ago the one year he had the maybe the greatest college QB of all time throwing to him while other elite WRs will have a chance to push themselves into the forefront while he sits out a whole season. The difference In signing bonus between the 5th pick of the draft and, say, the 12th pick is about $10,000,000. Let that amount of money sink in. There is no universe where a made decision that could potentially cost you ten mill isn’t considered dumb.

It’s 2020. There is no injury he could have sustained this season other than paralysis that would have hurt his draft stock Had he decided to play. Nick Chubb’s friggin leg got folded the wrong way In college and He’s not missing a beat.

got that check early. hope he doesn't owe his first 2 years to his agent before he's even drafted.

Weak. If you don’t want to play this weird season fine but honor your commitment. There’s a mutual understanding that you’ll play 3 seasons.

No there isn’t.

It’s funny how you don’t say the same thing about all the players that don’t become starters who leave to go to other teams. No but you want them to leave to free up scholarships so we don’t go over the 85 so that makes it different huh?

If you don’t think his agent has already spoken to numerous NFL GMs about this, you are delusional. He ain’t getting “passed up” by anyone.

I didn’t realize that NFL GM’s has the power to see into the future. How many of them predicted Joe Burrow’s meteoric rise up the draft boards before the 2019 season?

Would love to see Marshall have a huge year and go ahead of him just to discourage this kind of thing in the future

False equivalency fallacy.

One has already proven himself on the field one had not.

Again, you are crazy if you think his agent has not already spoken with several GMs.
