Right, it’s not his fault; it’s the system structure that he was put in. Dream on.
I didn't say it wasn't his fault. I said that a more structured organization with leadership would have put him in a better position to succeed. I also said that an organization in chaos like the Raiders did him no favors. Are those such unreasonable comments?

Ryan Leaf was the biggest bust in the NFL until Jamarcus said, “Hold my beer.”

What a joke these morons sitting in a class where they could never pass a test.

Leaf: 25 gms, 3,666 yards, 14 TDs, 36 INTs, 24 fumbles, 48.4% completions, 50.0 QB rating
Russell: 31 gms, 4,083 yards, 18 TDs, 23 INTs, 25 fumbles, 52.1% completions, 65.2 QB rating
The Chargers actually traded up for Leaf by giving up 2 1st round picks, a 2nd round pick, reserve linebacker Patrick Sapp and 3 time Pro Bowler Eric Metcalf – all to move up one spot with the Cardinals.

Was he criminally prosecuted? Why not?
Posted on 6/29/24 at 11:05 am to Lucky Loper
Not surprised one bit. He's been doing stupid crap and surrounding himself with bad people for a while now, so it was bound to happen. Prison may be the best thing for him because he needs a reality check because he's clearly headed down the wrong road.

Yeah, I just don't get rich athletes stealing money or getting involved in corrupt money schemes. There are places for people like him and Brett Farve.
I wonder how rich he is 15 years out of NFL with a history of addictions and not much intelligence

Bummed to hear this, seemed like he got his life together after listening to his interview with RC

Guessing Russell had the donor write the check in Russell's name rather than the school's, which makes things murkier and which might be why he was able to desposit it in his personal account; otherwise, if written in the school's name, that's straight up embezzlement.

Must be back on that syrup

had him in my geology class. He’d sit at the top row in the corner. Put his sunglasses on with his black leather jacket that had every NFL team on it. Professor would yell at him to take his sunglasses off. He’d lean back and go to sleep. Everyday footballs would be passed around to him and the other football players that were in that class. I think D Byrd might have been in that class too.
This is actually very true. Had a class with Early Doucet and he would show up with his student assistant and sleep

Chris Knowles, a local business owner who wrote the check, says Russell approached him about a donation to help the Williamson High School football team purchase weight room equipment, and Knowles gave Russell the donation by check. But the school allegedly never got any of that money, and Russell reportedly deposited it in a credit union and promptly withdrew $55,000 of that.
No good deed goes unpunished.

They would have done better to pick the guy that was taken 26th in the first round. He played 13 seasons. A six-time first-team All-Pro and nine-time Pro Bowl selection, won a Super Bowl ring in Super Bowl XL. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.
That guy was a sure bet. Too add, he began having seizures, which were later diagnosed as epilepsy, at age 15. He started on medication to control it and was able to continue playing football.

My sister was at the same Black Jack table as JaMarcus, a few years back. They were playing at the Pearl.

Strange thing about this is that he isn’t being criminally charged.
Sounds like the check was written to him with the understanding I guess that’s the school would benefit

This is an incredibly stupid take.
JaMarcus Russell Pre-Draft Hype
Some quotes:
quote:
"I can't remember being in such awe of a quarterback in my decade of attending combines and pro days. Russell's passing session was the most impressive of all the pro days I've been to. His footwork for such a big quarterback was surprising. He was nimble in his dropbacks, rolling out and throwing on the run. The ball just explodes out of his hands." -- ESPN's Todd McShay
quote:
"The workout Russell had was Star Wars. It was unbelievable." Then-Tampa Bay Bucs coach Jon Gruden
quote:
"He's like a video game. There's not a throw he can't make and there's some he can make I'm not sure anyone else can make. That's exciting. But how many times does that happen in a game, making those long throws. Maybe twice in 16 games. I know seeing someone do that is a scout's dream, but it doesn't happen much. ... He seems very first class, very easy to get along with. No doubt he was a great leader [at LSU]. That's why everybody wants him now." -- Then-Oakland Raiders coach Lane Kiffin
Peter King may have had the best prediction:
quote:
"I think JaMarcus Russell to the Raiders scares me. I would have done the exact same thing Oakland did, to be sure. But the formula for early success is a bad one there. So much pressure on him to perform well early, with such a porous offensive line, and who knows what at wideout." -- SI's Peter King
Now did he blow it, yes. No one claims otherwise.
Here is some other info: In the years that Russell played in games, LSU was 28-7. Only one of the losses was at home. The loses were to teams ranked #13 or higher. One one loss was on the road.
2004
#5 LSU lost on road to #14 Auburn (Russell split time with Marcus Randall)
#13 LSU lost on road to #3 Georgia (Split time with Randall)
#12 LSU lost Capital One Bowl to #11 Iowa (Split time with Randall and Flynn)
2005
#4 LSU lost at home to #10 Tennessee
#3 LSU lost SEC Championship to #13 Georgia (split with Flynn)
2006
#6 LSU lost on road to #3 Auburn
#9 LSU lost on road to #5 Florida

Can we please get 75 TD Members to each give $1,000 to resolve this for him?
I’m in for $1,000 if we get 74 more. I can afford it. I post on the OT Lounge.
