Because Gray is in the G-League, on Summer League rosters getting lots of minutes, and people think he was worse than a guy who will transfer to a MEAC school because he wasn't going to play under Wade.

Did not say the last 3 years have been our most exciting, Simmons one and only was exciting, that Oklahoma game was pretty awesome to be at, even though we came up short. Very disappointing but to say leading up was one of the most exciting times would be a lie.

As a redshirt and likely taking a scholarship, would he be expected to be a practice squad player?

Good. We need to get rid of all of the johnny jones "half-court/hood-ball players" and replace them with some real talented basketball players. We need guys that want to be part of a team and play to win for LSU, not their future nba contract...or in pattersons case, playing just to jack up 3s and miss most of the time. Wade is going to rebuild this program quicker than some may belI've. We got a good one in will wade. Geaux tigers. The one player that epitomizes johnny jones and his tenure at LSU is josh gray...totally undisciplined, and can't play the game of basket ball if his scholarship depended on it. Totally unorganized, ymca league basketball. I swear we could have went to the lsu rec center and fielded a more fundamentally sound basketball team than johnny jones UT on the court. What a frickin joke. Good riddance.

This is just an easier way to say you're no longer needed here... you don't meet the criteria we are trying to accomplish @LSU... it happens... best of luck to Patterson wherever he ends up....ALWAYS a TIGER.....

I respect both coach and player here. We had six scholarship guards and I suppose Wade had told him that he wouldn't be getting much playing time. But he is letting him keep his scholarship so that he can complete his academic work and graduate. Then as a graduate transfer he can play for anyone without having to sit out another year.

His scholarship will still count against our thirteen but we already had one extra with 12 players so we can still pick up a last minute recruit if that is possible. Kudos to Jaylyn for staying and getting his degree and Wade for approving it.

I'm ready for Brandon, Mays and the three new players to tear it up now. Making and defending threes will most likely make or break us.

I think it was the Florida game his first year I gave him so much shite looking back I don't even remember what it was but he sucked it up.

Dude. LSU looked like a ymca team out there the past couple of years. Horrible basketball. Didn't even have fundamentals down. Wtf were you watching? That's what I wanna know. We didn't even look like we had organized plays on offense and defense was non-existent. Where did you coach or play ball Larry bird, since you know so much more about the game? I love people like you who get on here and try to act like they know so much more about a sport than other people, when in reality, you probably never played shite in your life past little league.

I didn't say they were good. The "hood ball" thing stood out. So explain to me exactly what you disliked about our halfcourt offense. There was plenty.

You don't have to be on scholarship to redshirt. Your first day in D1 starts a 4-year time period when you can participate. The only way to stop that clock is to redshirt.

So if Patterson doesn't redshirt his fourth year will be gone. And then his time is done.

Now he can graduate while redshirt then transfer and have another year. Bottom line is if he doesn't redshirt this year he's finished and if he doesn't graduate he can't transfer.

It doesn't mean he's still eating up a scholarship. Even though WW may be gracious enough to do that.

And maybe that's what's happening because he's about to graduate. Maybe the others that are gone now weren't close to graduation.

Just because he is "redshirting" does not mean he will remain on scholarship. I highly doubt he remains on scholarship actually. You have 5 years to play 4 seasons once you are in college. In his case he will need to graduate, so he can transfer without sitting out a year.

So he pays his way to LSU this year, while being away from basketball and it being his redshirt year. He graduates and then he is free to find a school next season. I doubt he has any affiliation to the LSU basketball team at all.

I get your point, but you have 5 to play 4. The clock doesn't "stop"

Nope. LSU will pay his way and it won't count against the scholarship limit.

Wade now has two scholarships available for the 2017-18 season. NCAA Bylaw 15.5.1.6 allows programs to redshirt players in the year after a coaching change without that player counting against the scholarship limit
