Looks like he’s coming around. 3-3 and several nice defensive plays.

Took a lot of abuse in the game threads early on, so I’m glad to see him overcome the bad start and be a contributor.

Still early. SEC pitching (or Texas a decent baseball program) will eat him alive with pitching.

Maybe but he’s been making good contact even against decent pitching. It’s not like he was striking out and hitting slow grounders during his slow start. There’s a reason the coaches left him in.

real good pitching eats every player alive.

PM KNOWS what Slaughter can do. that's why he stuck with him during his opening slump. he also knows what Hess and Gilbert can do.

PM knows something else you don't know (amongst many i'm sure). and that's that he plays his team to peak as close as possible in the end game. NOT in the opening game. if you've ever played at a relatively high level (good high school ball or higher) or coached and you have any sense you would know that the way PM handles his team early on is the way to play for championships. his records PROVE THAT.

as fans, we sometimes simply want to win every game and when a player, or team, lays an egg on one day we tend to make permanent judgements about that players ability. one or two games of a players's performance, great or terrible, mean nothing.

Nearly a decade ago. Miles had one as well, how’d that turn out for him?

I know it’s not realistic to win a championship every year or even at the pace Bertman was winning them anymore, with programs across college baseball catching up to us in interest and investment.

Do you?

The miles comparison is so lazy and such a terrible comparison that football fans love to make

maybe you should look up and see how many championships PM HAS WON. like SEC west titles, SEC titles, Regional title, super regional titles and yes, national titles. then compare this with what ALL OTHER COLLEGE BASEBALL COACHES have won.

sure, it's been a while since he has won a natty and he came in second last year (walkers injury had a lot to do with that). so you should also look up and see how many current coaches have won natties. I doubt you will find any with many, if any, with more than one nattie.

if you think LSU can find a coach as good as Skip Bertman you are destined to be disappointed the rest of your life. the best I've seen (other than Bertman) is when a coach is lucky enough to have two or three ace pitchers at the same time (Tanner and Corbin) along with a very good offensive team and it's just as likely that PM will have that situation in the future as any other coach in the nation.

i'm not saying PM is the best of all time but he's certainly one of the best.

sorry, but the fact that MLB signs the best players right out of high school and the colleges have SEVERE limits on scholarships spreads the talent out amongst teams. it is reality.

I’m not huge PM fan but the last two years took away a lot of the criticism. 2016 wasn’t a very strong team and he took them to the champ series last year. I still don’t like some of his in game decisions or the results from 2012 from 2015, but you sound like a dumbass.

Hey he was in a slump. Very few players escape occasional slumps. I admire the guy for hanging in there and just keep doing his best. Overall, I'm pleased with this teams progression. I know this for sure.....my LSU Tigah baseball team will be competitive and in the mix. A cool spring evening (or afternoon) in Alex Box Stadium watching a great baseball game.....a real treat. You folks in Baton Rouge are so darned lucky!

Batter up!

As I said when you bitches were whining about Jake your loving him now That's why most of you are just a bunch of idiots!!!! However it would be wise not to bash players or coaches. Or since most of you think you know better or smarter get off your couches and make it happen!!!

Here’s an interesting dilemma... what if Slaughter keeps progressing and starts looking like what he was supposed to be. Like say the light has come on. What do you do when Smith is game ready? Slide Slaughter to first and sit Bryce who’s been pretty solid?

I’m asking because defensive chemistry is very important and if Hughes keeps up his steady play do you chance messing with said chemistry?

At that point, the only move is Slaughter to 1st Smith to 3rd but Jake has been playing good defense at 3rd.
