According to Wilson Alexander he’s pitching in the Purple-Gold World Series on Friday. News to me. SIAP but this is great news!

Expand your thread title so this doesn't get anchored.

But this was mentioned as a possibility during the game Sunday. So it's good to hear it confirmed.

Wasn’t able to watch the game but I heard we looked great. Between Henry Labas Hill and Marceaux we are loaded at SP.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Game 1 of the annual LSU Baseball Purple-Gold World Series will be played at 6:30 p.m. CT Wednesday in Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field, and the series will conclude with Game 2 at 7 p.m. CT on Friday.

Both games are open to the public with free admission and free parking, and fans are advised that LSU’s clear bag policy will be in effect with entrances available at Gates 1, 2 and 3 of the stadium.

Bathrooms will be open for fans’ convenience, and a concessions stand will open on the concourse level.

Following Friday night’s game, all of the LSU players will be available for an autograph session.

“Our players get amped up every year for the Purple-Gold World Series,” said 14th-year LSU coach Paul Mainieri, who has directed the Tigers to 30 different championships during his first 13 seasons. “The series marks the end of our fall practice period, and it’s always very competitive and a lot of fun at the same time. We’ve had a very intense fall practice, and I think we’re finishing on a real positive note.

“We invite all of our great fans to come out to ‘The Box’ on Wednesday night and Friday night; we want to replicate what the stadium is like during the regular season.”

The Gold team will start junior right-hander Eric Walker on the mound in Game 1, while the Purple will counter with sophomore right-hander AJ Labas.

Sophomore right-hander Jaden Hill will be the Gold's starting pitcher in Game 2, and sophomore right-hander Cole Henry will take the mound for the Purple squad.

The game features former LSU players serving as guest coaches. Buzzy Haydel (pitcher/infielder, 2006-09) will be the head coach of the Gold squad, and he will be assisted by Chris McGhee (infielder, 2006-09) and Mikie Mahtook (outfielder, 2009-11).

The Purple team's head coaches will be Wally McMakin (infielder, 1973-76) for Game 1 and Josh Smith (infielder, 2017-19) for Game 2. The Purple assistant coaches are Parker Bugg (pitcher, 2014-16) and Raph Rhymes (outfielder, 2011-13).

Following are some of the special rules that will be in effect for the games:
• The games will be 6 innings in duration.
• In the event of a game being tied after 6 innings, one extra inning will be played with modified international rules being used for the extra inning (begin inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd, with one out on the scoreboard). There will be a 15-pitch limit on the extra inning. Only one extra inning will be allowed per game.
• A pitcher cannot throw more than 25 pitches in one inning. In administering the pitch count limits, the pitcher must be below the limit when starting a batter. However, if he hits the limit while facing the batter, he will finish that batter’s at-bat regardless of pitch count. If the 3rd out is not recorded, “end of inning” will be called and the offensive team will be granted as many runs as there are runners on base when the inning is called.
• The designated “Home Team” will use the 1st base dugout. The Gold Team will be designated “Home Team” in Game #1. The Purple Team will be “Home Team” in Game #2.
• If the home team is winning going to the bottom of the 6th inning, the bottom of the 6th inning will still be played because of the possibility of run differential. However, if the Purple team won game #1 and is leading going into the bottom of the 6th in game #2, or if the Purple team is leading by a greater amount of runs than the Gold team won by on Wednesday, the series will be over -- the Purple team will not bat in the bottom of the 6th inning, and the Purple team will be declared champions.

Thanks Russian for posting that. Linking pages and just anything in general on the phone is a pain in the arse but that’s awesome.

Hill is the best pitcher on the team if he’s healthy. Staff is NASTY. Having Eric walker as a 5th guy is a great problem.

Awesome news. Didn’t realize he had been throwing enough to start one of the games.

Hopefully the staff will have better health this year.

I realize it's a small sample size and it was only Nicholls St. but the hitting approach on Sunday by our batters appeared to be much improved.

I recall only one swing at a pitch that was way out of the strike zone and that was by Cade Beloso on a slider by a left-handed pitcher (Beloso bats lefty) that completely fooled him. There was much more discipline at the plate and our batters stopped trying to pull everything, even pitches that were on the outside part of the plate.

For example, Beloso had three (maybe 4??) hits and two of them were hard shots to left field. If you recall last year he was such a guaranteed pull hitter that several teams put an infield shift on him with three infielders positioned on the right side of the infield.

I've got my fingers crossed that Eddie Smith, the new hitting coach, will deliver for us what he accomplished with Tulane's batters.

Any news on Storz? Haven’t heard him mentioned at all from anyone. If he can’t contribute after being away for so long why is he still on the team?
