Will Jaden be able to get a Medical Redshirt this year so he doesn’t lose a year of eligibility?

Don't think so. But it also doesn't usually matter much in baseball.

You think Jaden Hill’s gonna be at LSU for 5 years?

I mean that’s not exactly the point. If he were given a medical redshirt he’d be draft eligible going in to his RS Jr rather than Sr year giving him more bargaining power in draft.

He would be eligible after his redshirt sophomore season.

What he is saying is that Hill would have bargaining power after his RS Jr. year (which would normally be his Sr year). He won't make 5 years on campus but then maybe he could pitch 3 whole seasons with a redshirt this year.

He would def be draft eligible after his RS sophomore year. It’s 3 years outside of HS unless you are 21. Regardless if he plays or is hurt or anything.

If he is good enough he won't be around long enough for a medical redshirt to matter.

What would happen if Hill misses all or most of another season because of arm woes?

I am not hoping this would happen, just wondering.

Technically he could take a regular redshirt, if he planned on being here for that rare 6th year.

I’m sure Nick Storz could answer that question.

How do redshirts work in baseball? Is there a certain amount of games you can play in before it's burnt (like how football is now)? Or once you step on the field the RS is blown? And what about medical red shirts?

Medical Redshirt

Players who suffer a season-ending injury or illness during the first half of the spring season may be eligible for a hardship waiver if they haven't played in more than 30 percent of their team's games. Playing time missed during fall baseball does not factor into the hardship calculations. Each player must apply to the NCAA for a hardship waiver and document his case. If the NCAA grants the waiver, that player will receive a do-over for that season -- effectively creating a "medical redshirt" year.

The question isn’t whether he’ll be here in the 5th year - obviously, if he’s good, he won’t be. The point is that maybe he’ll stay for his fourth year on campus with the knowledge that he still has an additional year of being drafted with eligibility remaining.
