Precisely. The people who are saying "I dont understand why people are concerned with whose names on the court", or "Dale didn't deserve it anyway" are missing the point. And the point is this is being done based on "identies", not merit. Its the way of JBE and Tate, who is one of the foremost published authors on this exact doctrine.

So I don't really give a shite whose name's on the court, but the reasons behind their actions are totally whacked.

Not really my target. I’m just saying that naming facilities isn’t just about honoring achievements (although that certainly is part of it).

We name arenas and playing fields in part to generate the nostalgia that feeds the machine.

There just isn’t sufficient nostalgia for women’s basketball (or for Sue Gunter) to achieve that purpose. If that’s perceived as an argument for supremacy of men’s ball v women’s ball, that’s not the fight I’m trying to pick (at least not here).

They should name a foul line after him. Remove the current line and replace it with a row of painted bricks.

From Jacques article he just dropped, and exactly what I’ve been saying:

“As I tweeted before, to bring Dale Brown out before a sold-out PMAC crowd, officially name the court after him, and then change it one year later as Brown is 87 years old seems a bit messed up. And even those who played for and knew Sue Gunter seem to agree she would not have wanted things to go down this way. I would tell you the same had they named the court after Gunter a year ago and then added Brown.

Someone needs to stop the ceremony before it gets to the altar. My criticism there was with the process and going through with it, not with who the court is named after.“

Why not… Dale is a great guy and made some magical runs… I realize most LSU fans want to fire every coach if they don’t win multiple championships, but I doubt Dale would be upset if Sue has her name there.

That's my whole issue ... don't do it and then undo it in the name of equity and I say that as a female.

AND to do it on his birthday well that's just as tacky as shite. It turned political and that's what is wrong ..

Keeping around old coaches and acting like you owe them something is stupid. It was dumb when we did it for Skip, and he actually earned it. It's especially stupid for Dale Brown

Makes more sense than naming Bridges, Highways, and Buildings after Politicians. They didn't build them nor pay for them, they just stole all they could cover up, while in office.

For me it's about why in the hell do this one year after they did it? If they were going to name it for two it should have been done back then.

WOKE U is not where I went to school.

With all of the talk about Louisiana politics this go round-what about last year when it was rammed through or when Johnny Jones was hired?

Goose/Gander?

Was in school and later a season ticket holder for most of the Brown era and to date. Have seen a lot of good basketball because of Daddy Dale and a lot of bad basketball over the years during and after because of Daddy Dale ...

It’s embarrassing and truly pathetic. I’m ashamed of LSU. So disgusting. Dale Brown is LSU basketball.

The problem is his backers dishonored his name by playing politics and circumventing the process to have the court named after him.

Yes, the process is a rigid one, but it’s there to prevent something like we are seeing now. It is supposed to be extremely hard to do and it’s to make sure there are no mistakes.

Now the process is being circumvented by another group, and is compounding the initial mistake.

LSU is their own worst enemy in all this. It is all so political.

What are they “undoing?” They aren’t taking Brown’s name off the court, they’re just adding another one.

Arguably they should have done both at the same time, but I don’t see that changing anything.

The people against Gunter’s name being in the court would still be against it. And for the same reasons.

I think you make a valid point double. This naming the court after Dale thing isn't something that came up just last year.

This has been a very heated topic behind the scenes for at least a decade.

Dick has harped on it for at least that long every LSU game he's done when LSU was involved. And I've had friends and family who have asked me at least that long why it hasn't happened yet.

I would tell them personally I don't care one way or the other, but I had always heard there were folks in positions of prominence that had said in general terms something to the effect of "over my dead body" as Dale made as many enemies as friends over the years.

So, the process to get to the point of getting his name there was a fight and a struggle and to think there was no politics involved in that would be extremely naive and as you point out and I agree, incorrect.

I'm as opposed to the new Woke politics as anyone but what is the opposite of Woke politics...and is that any better?

Doucet emphasizing the sold out crowd like it was for Dale. I remember some yawns and a few golf claps at the actual unveiling.
