i do find it funny that PM bench Trey Watkins and seemingly cut him the next year. He was having a year just like this. High walk rate, few hits, and tons of K's. shite the whole rant wanted him out too. Its funny to see so many people defend Jones
That is the guy I was trying to think of thank Lester! What about Fields from last year? What about Sciambra this year?
I just don't understand the love affair with Jones..

I'm not defending him, I'm asking who should replace him? Of course no one has an answer.

don't compare Watkins to Jones, they are two different players, Watkins didn't give much to the team, but Jones is a great glove at 2B and is hitting the ball hard, if Jones gets on a hot streak he will be another great hitter in our powerful lineup.

If we had someone better than Jones to replace him with, I would have no problem with benching him.

2 different players, same situation. We had no one to replace Watkins either. He still tried something new.
and dont say Watkins offered nothing. He, like Jones, was getting on base via the walk. And he was 17-20 on SB attempts

I guess you are just going to refuse to answer who should replace Jones as well. Gotta love the people that jump in to argue and then can't even logically defend their argument.

I didn't even say we should bench him, buddy. I was just comparing the situations.
Gotta love rantards that cannot read.
To answer your question, Jared Foster and Yocom can both play 2B.
Watkins didnt have some stud waiting to play behind him. I think Alex Edwards got a crack at some playing time once he was benched. It's no doubt PM has his "pet" players. Even though this team can probably afford to leave Jones in the lineup, because most of the lineup is actually producing.

not a great bat but brought in to face lefties, you have 2 or 3 guys who can take his place in the outfield, aka Laird Stevenson maybe one other guy. So by taking him out when he isn't hitting the ball well isn't a loss because you bring someone in who can replace his defense.
noone on the team matches athletically defensively to Jones at the position of 2B, maybe bregman but he plays SS and we need him there. So even if Jones never gets on track for hitting well he will always play at 2B he is a great player to have on the infield, maybe one of the best defensive infield crew in the SEC. I suspect if you bench Jones, LSU would go from having the best fielding percentage in the SEC .982 to middle of the road I would say lower .970. Defensive is a huge part of baseball. You guys are looking to much at does this guy get us hits, but the thing is if you take out ross if you take out Jones, and replace them with good bats but who aren't good defensive players we would give up more runs, and lose more games.
its simple Jones and Ross are irreplaceable defensive players who are really good at their position, but can't hit well. Guess what you put them bottom third of the order.
Katz Bregman Laird Rhymes and maybe a couple other guys are really good hitters decent to good defensive players, you put them top 2/3 of the line up.
this results in
best record in one of the top conferences in the nation.
22-2. in a 4 way tie for best conference record.

simple question for you, our field percentage is .982 if we take out jones what do you think our fielding percentage falls to. Keep in mind that SS and 2B see lots of plays, and can change the outcome of an inning, think of how many double plays that involved SS and 2B this year. Jones may not hit the ball well but his glove isn't replaceable

You sure seemed to imply it, buddy. You compared the situations and then said you think it's funny how people are defending Jones.

So you think that this is our answer? Jared Foster hit a sizzling .218 last year. I don't think that is going to play out better than the potential that Jacoby Jones has at second base.

Eta: think I'm a year off of the situation you're talking about.

I hope Jones becomes the player he supposed to be but I will just disagree with you guys on Jones and not trying someone else.
A program like LSU should have someone on the bench that could get a shot at playing if another player is struggling for more than a year. Oh well as long as they keep winning everyone will be fine.

you don't know what you have until you play them.

Foster was one of the best players on the best high school team in the state. He struggled as a freshman, but a lot of guys do.
Yocom was the team's leading hitter last spring. He can at least draw walks and play defense like Jones is doing. Has a good glove
What do you guys actually know about our players?
all this "someone" bullshite. Show some respect!!
