My favorite moment of the ‘78-‘79 season was when we lowered the SEC Champs banner during the Alabama game before the game was over (that game was the clincher). That was the loudest I ever heard the PMAC. Alabama coach CM Newton got furious and then the crowd went ballistic.

damn, these young fools don’t even know about Rudy Macklin?
To be fair, that 1980-81 team was closer in time to the end of World War II (35 years) than today is to when that team played for LSU (43 years).

Rick Huckaby was hired because he was Tom Curry‘s head coach. When he left and went to Marshall, Tom Curry went with him. Tom Curry was deemed a can’t miss prospect and LSU really wanted him.

He also was a massive bag man for Daddy Dale

I was at those games. I was a student at LSU at the time. Those regional finals in the Superdome were epic. We thought we were unbeatable after that Wichita State game but we didn't realize at the time how bad Rudy's finger injury was.
I am convinced it cost us the championship, and I was at the Final Four in Phylly to watch it play out.

I was driving from MSY back to Baton Rouge when it was announced on the radio that Reagan was shot. I don't blame Rudy for making an insensitive statement. We were all in sour moods at the time because of the basketball game.

If I remember correctly, Willie Simms went on to play pro ball in Israel.

He was Jewish, and by birth, not conversion. He settled in Israel after his basketball career. Sadly, he died a few years ago.
