Unless you are a top 2 round pick, only position that really makes sense to leave and earn money while you can is RB due the lowest average career length.

Cornerbacks/WR aren't far behind. Flott could probably could have still improved his draft stock slightly by staying though.

Why do you think you get a say in when a player decides to go pro?

Who is "we"... the coaches, the fans, the kids??

LSU did this by pushing the 3yrs and the NFLSU.

Flott is going to br absolutely abused by these massive NFL wrs. He needs another year to get stronger. He will sit on a practice squad for a few years at best.

As for getting a degree, they can always come back and finish if they choose to do so. I wish the program put more of an emphasis on getting players to take business classes, but you can’t force them to do so.

Fortify those lineman that are typically 4+ year players & provide consistency within the Program.

LSU has promoted the NFLSU and that's fine, we've won 3 NC's in the past 18 years & lost a 4th.

Everyone not named Bama would take that.

The NFL drafts on potential and projections all the time.

Sure they do but they’re low dollar and sink or swim day 1. Most of those sink.

Of course not. But it’s much more likely to help someone with potential get there than not and hit the NFL unprepared, make some money but blow it all because the lifestyle and back home mowing grass under 4 years.

Players can make more in 3.3 years as a pro than most people will make in decades.

Rookie minimum salary in the NFL is 600K. Which is roughly about 600K more than they make playing in college.

Having the ability to keep that money is just as important as making it

3.3 years is a really short amount of time to make a ton of money.

That seems like an argument for leaving early not against it.

Yeah I mean I'm assuming the best of the kid that leaves.

It's just as likely they blow it all on hookers and private jet rides they can't actually afford.

The same can be said for the kid that stays and makes more. With the lifestyle many of today's yout's like to project, it's just as easy to blow 10m as it is 2.5.

Even marginal players get life-changing money in 3.3 years. Most of these kids come from NOTHING, so a short stint in the NFL and a couple million in the bank is more than enough for them at a young age. That's a hell of a head start in life...making 20x's a normal salary in a couple years without having worked a regular job. Almost like winning the Lottery. They just need more guidance on how to manage that money long-term and not just spend it away.

You are the one who doesn’t want the truth or reality.

You don’t have to like it, but this is how it is. Get used to it, because it isn’t changing anytime soon and will probably get worse.

I’d tell Flott to stay. He is a decent player. Can he cover good nfl receivers though. Perhaps in a year. He still needs some work.

Where do you think he’ll be drafted. I think this is probably where your disagreement lies.

Fans preaching that players are selfish for leaving so they can no longer entertain them is the most selfish thing in sports

That doesn’t allow the young man to move up the board. That costs the player money.

Not really. For long term purposes, it’s better to start earning money NOW. And if he’s good enough, his second contract will more than make up for anything he might have lost by coming out early.

And, if he is injured and his career cut short, at least he’s got real money in the bank.

What? He started the season as the nickel corner and played pretty well then when Ricks and Stingley were done he moved to the outside and played great. He will be a nickel corner in the NFL at minimum for 5-10 years.
