Toviano is a guy that I think everyone had high hopes for, possibly starting as a true freshman and it just hasnt worked out yet. I remember his recruitment and was pumped we pulled him over aggies but just hasnt lived up to the high hopes yet

Gilbert was playing with an injury last year... he's a better player than he showed.

It doesn't mean anything. One day the starting DL group from R to L was Reliford, Pyburn, Gooden then Cobbins. That won't be your starting DL group most likely. Doesn't really mean anything right now.

Dude missed a tackle yesterday that led to a 40 yard rushing TD

It’s like Deja Vu. I am pretty over the Jardin Gilbert experience.

I have been watching LSU football and Gilbert and Major Burns were easily the worst safety combo I have ever seen atLSU.Gilbert may have had an injury last year but that had nothing to do with the bad angles and being constantly out of position he has no business being any more than a 3rd string safety.

From the looks of camp thus far, my guess would be to expect a ton of rotation on the D line. LB's will be pretty locked down with West & Keys rotating at Mike and my thought from so far is that Singleton is your 2 at both Will & Star. Could see a light rotation at safety but the vast majority of snaps going to Cooley & Haulcy.

DE: 1. Pyburn 2a. Butler 2b. Cobbins
DT: 1a. McKinley 1b. Guillory 2. Mitchell (Space eater)
DT: 1a. Gooden 1b. Breaux
DE: 1a. Reliford 1b. Payton

MLB: 1a. West Weeks 1b. Davhon Keys
WLB: 1. Whit Weeks 2. Singleton
Star: 1. Perkins 2. Singleton 3. Ross

CB: 1. Delane 2. Woodland 3. Jackson
CB: 1. Stamps 2. Pickett
FS: 1. Cooley 2a. Spears 2b. Toviano
SS: 1. Haulcy 2. Gilbert

I think they are giving the guys that have been here more run than the incoming guys for the most part but fully expect this to be what we see come Clemson.

Haulcy has 6 practices in a LSU helmet. Give it time.

Everyone is emphasizing this over a practice report. Has anyone seen video of this play? Yes safety has to make the tackle there, they are the last line of defense, but who else missed a tackle/couldn’t get off a block?

Is it possible Gilbert is still better in coverage than Haulcy is at the moment?

There are people saying that they expect Haulcy and Cooley to be the starting safeties game 1. It hasn't happened yet though. There is still a lot of time for those changes to be made.

I think you're probably right. I hope Haulcy and Cooley are the starting safeties game 1. I was just responding to someone that said that Gilbert isn't running with the ones, which just isn't true.

For sure, he is absolutely getting runs with the ones right now. One interesting thing I heard Kelly say that all but confirms that Gilbert isn't going to start is that they are looking at him getting reps at Star. They aren't moving guys around like that if they think he is playing the vast majority of their safety snaps.

Toviano feels like he could be a decent fit at nickel. I'm not sure who's got the position right now if we want 5 DB's on the field.

I can't remember who ran nickel for us last year. I would think Coach Baker and Raymond will have to decide whether to go for a coverage guy, like Pickett or Woodland, or a more physical guy like a safety or LB. Potentially Haulcy who's listed at 215 lbs? Idk what they do there.

And if Perkins is EVER asked to cover a TE or slot receiver, Imma be pissed.

If you watched Haulcy play at UH you'd know it's a no-brainer. He's the best SS on the team. He doesn't miss tackles, and he makes plays.

This isn’t a lifetime achievement award situation. Especially this season with high expectations and a huge opening game. If transfers are better, they start. End of discussion

I remember when Joe Burrow transferred to LSU in May, 2018. He was named Starting QB in early August and Lowell Narcisse and Justin McMillan announced they were transferring.

1/2 this board went nuts because O was going to start a No name, Back up QB from Ohio State, who couldn’t win the job there. This caused 2 of our QB’s who had been with the program for a couple of years to leave. It pissed a lot of people off who felt they deserved to start over a guy who was only in the program a couple of months.

Of course…. No one would admit that they were one of them, but 1/2 this board was pissed off and felt that a transfer didn’t deserve to be given the starting job over others who were in the program longer.

Cooley plays nickel not FS, haulcy plays SS and will start at that spot. It’s up to spears to beat our Gilbert at FS, if he isn’t able to I think it says more about spears than it does Gilbert.

If Gilbert is the guy at S we're in trouble because it means your transfers didn't pan out.
