I dont want an LSU guy or even a Louisiana guy.

It doesn't even have to be a basketball coach

It would probably be good to have a basketball coach.

there is a pretty good coach who wants to be here

What a dumb example. No I would rather a good coach. And there are a lot more outside of the state than here.
If you are looking for a Louisiana or LSU guy you are limiting yourself to a bunch of shitty coaches.

Like when bama got away from hiring bryant decendants?

Let's just bring Pokey back, shave her head, put a banana in her pants, stick a mustache on her and let her coach the boys.

Explain. Why would a historcally mediocre program like LSU want to hire from within?
ETA: Nevermind, I just took a look at your post history. You never provide any explanation, you just post short insults.
Including several post that just say dipshit.

Because we can hire them cheap, and emphasize that their life-long dream has been to coach at LSU.
The new hire is happy.
A certain segment of LSU fans are happy.
And, most importantly, F. king is happy.

I don't disagree with your overall theme, but to say that TJ is a bad example is stupid. It's an actual real life example. I'm an anti La guy hire, but to act like fit doesn't matter is stupid.

Trent Johnson failed because he isnt a good coach, not because of some abstract idea of fit.

The problem here is that the guys who may "fit" and potentially be successful is absolutely limited. You don't have the coaching tree that the KU's, Dukes and Kentuckys of the world.
I know that a guy like Kermit Davis is out there, but if we decided to look outside first before going to him, I'd at least understand.

He had success at Stanford. Trent won the SEC when he had talent at LSU. LSU needs a salesman/PR type HC. Personality and fit matter.

He cant recruit.
You need an x's and o's coach that can also recruit to be successful for any extended period of time.

How about hiring the best you can get, regardless of where he is from? Limiting the search to Louisiana is just as dumb as excluding coaches simply bc they are from Louisiana.

I could care less whether a coach has a connection or not. We failed to get good coaches that had Louisiana ties, Tim Floyd and Tony Bennett come to mind.

True but I dont think the administration is capable of judging the two equally without giving the LSU/Louisiana guy the advantage. This is what creates bad hires.
