As prompted by the other thread Maybe its just the feeling I get with any football season but I have a funny feeling that this team is going to be very very good.
They return 3 of 5 starters and the 2 replacements have experiance. Stacked at running back. The best tight end weve had in a while imo. JJ has performed in two hostile enviornments against good competition, and he has some warm up games before we get to the real schedule. At wr we have plenty of talent the only question is who gets to play.
On defense the secondary now has experience with the best corner in the sec PP, along with one of the best dbs coach in the land. Linebackers, well we have them haha, but seriously they know what they are doing and chavis will put them in position. On d line nevis and alem are going to explode this season.

All in all while this may not be a national championship team i think we at least win the west. 40 days

Everyone is saying our LB's are average at best (as a LB corp), but remember P. Riley is a beast. The other two LB's are average.

I'd love 10-2. And I think we can do it. But I've said this before, if we win less than 9 games this year, Miles seat gets warm and you're going to see some storm clouds start gathering.

We can't afford to win less than 9 games considering last year's debacle. Too many other teams are gaining momentum, so we need this year badly.

Our defense has to be improved. (no place to go but up) I think our offense will be unstoppable once JJ gets going.

i very much have the same feeling. i'm most always optimistic at this time of year, but i think the character of this team is one that seeks retribution. last year's team never seemed to gel (till bowl game). these guys are hungry! they have the talent to have a great season and i think the new defensive coaches are very good also. no way i'll predict an unbeaten season, but i will predict our Tigers will be a force to be reckoned with. a break here and a break there; we'll be in atlanta, baby!

winning 10 would be awesome.
Right now we'd be dogs vs Fl, Ole Miss, and Bama

We always seem to do beyond better in the years when we don't have much expectations. Looks like this is one of those years and I like our team not being considered the #1 team in the West by football pundits.
It will be a great year indeed

I think we will see substantial improvement this year, especially on defense and at the QB position (including Lee when he gets in there behind Jefferson).

That said, however, I don't expect a huge improvement on our overall record. 9-3 is realistic, and I think most fans would be happy with that or better.

We have a very difficult schedule this year relative to the teams that are suppose to compete for the title. Not only do we play Alabama and Ole Miss on the road (the two teams besides LSU supposed to compete for the West), but we also play Georgia AND Florida (the two teams that will likely compete for the Eastern title).

That's a tough schedule, so I will be ok with winning at least one of those games and beating everyone that we'll be favored over. If we can somehow win two of those four "tough" games and win the ones we'll be favored in, then I will be thrilled with the season.

9-3 is what I expect. Anything better and I'll be really happy about how the season went.

If our defense plays decent last year, we could have won 2 maybe 3 more

Alabama could have been a win
Arkansas could have been a win
Ole Miss could have been a win (but difficult)
Georgia could have been a win (yes lee sucked it up but we still scored alot of points in that game and with a few stops it could have been better.

Florida could have been closer but probably still a loss

Yeah. After recently watching some of last year's games, I came to realize how good Riley was last season. I was too distracted by the turnover and coverage woes to notice.

Agreed. Among other things, I don't see how JJ can avoid having a down game or two this season, which I look at as a September-to-bowl season learning curve for him. Hell yes, he's a talented dude, but it's asking a lot for an underclassman with two games of experience to play like fifth-year senior. Of course I hope he throws 24-for-30/300 yds/4 TDs every game—but I'd wager there's less than a 50-50 chance of that happening.

Jordan Jefferson has only two losses when starting in his career and one was against Arkansas. The guy is a winner and of course there will some bumps in the road, he's a young QB playing in the SEC.I think he will be fine.

That's why I'm going with 9-3.

In the long run: 9-3 this season, THEN 10-2/11-1 in 2010. These next two years will be fun, more than enough to make us forget about 2008.

The SEC will be stronger this year than last IMHO. I think we are just as likely to go 7-5 as 10-2.

Everyone seems to be in consensus given the schedule, that 9-3 is satisfactory. I agree anything more is great. Anything less and I'm upset.

I expect 2010 and 2011 to be very good years. The 2010 schedule is shaping up very nicely, albeit competitive.

Call it intuition or psycic ability I expect the Tigers to be dominant this year. We are loaded @ RB and Michael Ford will be a national freshman sensation. Also, re: Jefferson, once in a while an exceptional athlete shows up who is savy beyond his years, understands the game and doesn't get rattled. This LSU team will be very, very good.
