Especially on Defense

There are 10 players left on the team from the 2021 class. One is a kicker and one is a punter who is only a placeholder and he sucks at that.

the defenders left from that class are Jones, Penn, Burns and Ryan. The only productive defensive player from that class plays for Arkansas.

The weakness of that class makes the recruiting the next 2 years somewhat inexcusable.

2022: We have 1 active player from that class
Perkins - injured
Wiggins - transferred to ride the bench at Colorado
Welch - transferred
Tolan- Transferred then quit football
Allen- Available but is our 5th safety
Davis-Robinson- Transferred
Hill - Transferred

2023:
Womack - Key Backup behind Swinson
Weeks - Good Startwr
Stamps- Starter
Toviano- plays sometimes
Howard - Transferred
Jackson- doesn’t play
Yaites - transferred
Brathwaite- transferred
Carpenter- doesn’t play
Hughes - Transferred
Daugherty - doesn’t play football anymore.

That is 5 starters from
high school recruits from 3 classes. 6 is you count Perkins even though he and weeks started 1 game together before he got hurt.

In comparison, this last class which didn’t have the current staff working in till the end has the following players

Breaux - Rotational DL has started
McKinley -rotational DL
Reliford - Rotational DL
Woodland - 3rd CB
Spears - 1st Safety subbed in
Atkins- backup to Penn
Singleton - has seen time
keys- has seen time

we have more HS players contributing from this last class than the 2022 and 2023 classes combined. at least the 23 class has a couple of starters.

Absolutely stumble out the gates from Kelly. At some point you need to recruit guys who are better than Ryan, Gilbert, Burns and Penn. having 0 DTs contributing from the 21-23 GS classes is terrible.

and I think he saw the mistake and made the changes, but were paying for it now.

it shouldn’t be, but our 4th safety is a true freshmen.

Spot on. When you look under the hood, it makes a lot of sense why we’re struggling so much right now. Defensive recruiting is already better. Gonna have to be patient with this.

Did he? Is there a list of Transfer Portal players playing defense right now?

Why not?

I believe the issues trace back to the hiring decisions made when Kelly joined LSU. Letting go of Raymond was a mistake, and appointing Polian as the recruiting coordinator was another misstep. With the right people in place, like Raymond, Baker, and Frank, I think it just reset the clock. I do desire a better OC because the play calling is kind of bland/predictable

As an LSU fan, patience isn’t our strong suit. However, aside from Alabama, we’ve been the most successful team over the past two decades. I think we’re on an upward trajectory with the current players and potential recruits. The 2026 class looks particularly promising talent wise, and I believe the 2026-27 season could be our year; if not for sure the next year to win it all. I believe we have chances to make the playoffs between now and then.

Swinson
Paez
Suggs
Alexander
Gilbert
Shand

Thenidea that there we could have just gone out and replaced all 3 safeties and gotten 2 all sec DTs in the portal isn’t really supported by reality.

I don't think he has learned from his mistakes.

He continues to build QB centric rosters. Superstars at wideout, qb and maybe running back. Going for great safeties and DBs... and he skimps on the line, especially D-line. You're not going to win in the SEC with QB centric teams consistently.

QB centric coaches: Norvell, Sweeney, Kiffin (he seems to have learned his lesson though), Huepel, Oregeron, Kelly, Meyer
Non QB Centric Coaches: Saban, Miles, Harbough, Smart, Lanning, Sarkisian (his qbs get a lot of attention but his team building and system is not qb centric).

Deon sanders made more progress than Kelly did in the same amount of time. I never, ever thought Id say this, but we would possibly lose to Colorado at this point. I'm not kidding.

I heard JuJu is going back to the defensive side after the season.

Also we are going to lose one of the young LBs to the portal

Good post but it just makes it even more mind boggling that BK didn’t think we needed to attack the transfer portal this past offseason. What the hell is thinking???

It’s a stumble even though he did not recruit the players?

And that he had to supplement the roster with transfer players just to be competitive? Which in turn prevented him from recruiting more 3-4 year high school players

6 NCs

4 NCs outside Saban and i’d argue Saban has a QB centric offense every year after 2015. in 2016 and 2017 Hurts was an enormous part of the run game and they had a WR win a heisman in 2020.

Lannings teams aren’t QB centric? The offense has always run through the QB. Nix and Gabriel.

Before last year Jim Harbaugh spent most seasons getting his dick kicked in because he had shitty QB play. he lost 6 straight bowl games before last season. Idk if hang around 9 years and maybe you luck into a bad Bama team in the playoffs is the best method of winning a championship.

Colorado was much worse, but Colorado did also essentially have their conference demoted to a G5 league this year. The best team they’ve beaten may be North Dakota State.

Would you call Colorado a QB Centric team?

That's what I've been saying. BK really fricked up by not even getting more backfill guys for 3rd year experience for this team. We lack mediocre vets at best and at worst we have talent that can't be given the time to develop properly. Transfers exist for a reason and I understand not overpaying but that doesn't mean ditch it all together.

Well yeah, it was an issue years ago too.

you don’t go 5-5 and 6-7 with good players.
