I sure hope so.

The whole situation is completely pointless and like many other posters I wonder when did she gain this huge love of college football.

This all seems like a catch to me.

I could see TM7 being down and out after getting beat for a TD, but then looks to the sideline and sees Mo sitting on the bench and then goes all hulkamania and never gets beat again!

if our players and especially a previous hesiman nominee need motivation from Mo, than our program is in more trouble than anyone thinks.

There were a large handful of guys on here that said she would never have to tackle and even if she did she'd be better than Hairston or Alleman.

I am not joking. I was pulling my hair out. No woman outside of Chyna is going to tackle a D1 kick returner. They were saying "I'm sure she could trip them or something". I am about 170-180 depending on the shite I take that day, I am not a hoss by any means, and I would bulldoze right the frick over Mo Isom.

I don't remember anyone saying that she would never have to tackle, or could definitely do it better than Hairston or Alleman. I argued, with support from several other posters, that with her size and atheltic experience she might be able to cover kickoffs. At the very least, she should be given the opportunity to try.

To refresh your memory, here's a sampling from those threads:

quote:

Isom does have an advantage, however. Unlike Alleman and Hairston, she has four years of experience, in SEC competition, at cutting off angles, judging position, and making hard contact when necessary. This is all we ever expect from a male kicker in his role as the defender of last resort. He's not expected to wrap up. He's not expected to run down. He's expected to judge his position, cut off angles, and slow the returner just enough to let coverage catch up. He's expected to make contact only when necessary.

quote:

Yes, taking angles on the return is a different skill set. However, I think her skills and experience are potentially adaptable.

Bottom-line: I don't think she should necessarily be written off on coverage just because of her gender. It's possible that she could do as good a job as the two kickers already on the roster. At the very least, I'd like to see her try in practice.

quote:

I'd like to see Mo Isom get her fair shot at the kicking position, and from what I've seen and read she might be a good fit as the third-string walk-on. But let's be clear. There's no such thing as, "Big enough to tackle."

Tackling is a very specific skill, and so is shedding a tackle. The young men playing football in the SEC have been refining their technique since early childhood, and they are phenomenally good at both.

Isom can't just show-up and, with her size, make up for those years of practice. There's also a distinct, and undeniable, disadvantage in her body composition.

Could she force a returner out of bounds by cutting off the angle? Possibly. But that wouldn't, and shouldn't, be her role if she earns a walk-on spot.

For those of us who wanted her to have a chance, this is a satisfying result. Miles evaluated her on her merits, and, without allowance for her gender, told her she had more work to do in order to make the squad.

Honest. Fair. Respectful. Those are qualities I admire in a coach.

trying out a group of potential walk-on kickers, most of which have no shot of seeing the field, is something that every school does...hardly pointless

It's pretty pointless when we have more than enough capable kickers at our program. We really don't need her at all

Alleman walked on. That wasn't pointless. This happens every yr. This time a girl was one who tried out and competed relatively well.

Why is there so much hate on this board for Mo? It is fricking ridiculous reading all of these insecure responses. Get over it.

She is not getting a spot on the team out of charity. She will only make it if she proves she is the fourth best kicker at LSU.

She has been a positive representative of the university and would like a shot of kicking a field goal. She is not going to replace our scholarship kickers.

Are you all worried that someone is going to make fun of us for having a girl on our team? We have been a top 5 football program for a decade. We are going into next season in the top 2. We have nothing to be embarrassed about.

Great quote from Coach Miles. He compared Mo Isom to his daughter, Smacker, who swims competitively in Florida.

"Very much (reminds me of Smacker). She understands competition, doesn't like to be denied and wants to contribute. I don't think she'd want to be on this team if she couldn't contribute. It's too painful to be (just for) publicity. Who in the heck would go through this for publicity? Not any body I know and not somebody who had a great career athletically. She has already accomplished a tremendous amount in her career to be trivialized, and to be added to a team unduly would be wrong"

+1 Glad it's over. I have a feeling that Les is just placating her because he's a nice guy and knows that she has no shot.

I just see it as a stunt to increase her PR camp and what not. I don't really think she cares that much about football

In the end I'm glad this is all over and done with

LSU would get tremendous positive media coverage if she made the team on her own merits.

I hope for the best. She's easy to like, and seems very committed despite this setback.
