For years tiger fans have said we don’t have someone who can develop a qb.

I’m under the belief it has more to do with evaluating qb’s vs development.

Franks is a good example to me. Les wanted to sign him. He was a four star guy. He’s been coached by what is considered good qb coaches in mcelwain and Mullen. However, he hasn’t progressed. Yet, if he signs with LSU, the whole les can’t develop qbs argument would be full force.

What says the rant?

tRant says you need a sample size greater than 1 to make your case.

Cam Cameron wanted and recruited Franks. I think he was wrecked by McElwain. If Mullens had him first he would be different QB.

I think the rant has criticized Miles for not being a good QB evaluator

Franks can eat dog shite.

Sorry I just had nothing else to contribute to the thread. Carry on.

He has progressed. Hasn't been good vs good competition but last year he wasn't good even vs poor competition. But he's better at literally everything this season.

The guy was always a raw talent that was going to need time to develop. He should've never seen the field last season.

Def a little of both...almost sort like the lottery. No one really knows how these kids are going to pan out...how they are gonna adjust to the type of offense and school. Ex. Blake Barnett 5* didn't pan out, shea patterson isn't really living up to what he was suppose to be.

It’s easy to lay the blame on Les and Cam given their track record. Blind luck you should find a decent QB once in 10 years. I do think part of it at least was their offense.

That said Franks is also an example of what an inexact science it is. Look at how many 4-5* don’t pan out? How many has Bama washed out? Also check the NFL draft, they way over draft QBs but still.

He's an example of a QB getting his arse beat down Saturday

Franks is much better this season. He threw 9 TDs and 8 picks all of last year. So far he has 12 TDs and only 3 picks this season.

His QB rating and completion percentage is higher than Joe. He has double the TD passes as Joe. And they are really close (7.63 v. 7.8) on yards per attempt.

Now, I wouldn't trade Joe for Franks but Franks has developed from a pretty bad QB to a more than serviceable one.

Well either Miles can't develop QBs or he can't recognize potential in a HS Quarterback.
Did he sign one that lived up to his star rating?

I don’t know how gifted. He’s not very athletic. He’s an average QB at best.

How do you measure this? If just off wins, JJ and JL lived up to theirs for sure.

Can't really compare the two since LSU has played tougher competition.... also comparing Franks 2nd year start to Burrow first year start.

My point was to show that the notion that Franks hasn't developed is wrong. He is meaningfully better this season.

our evaluation has been off but also our recruiting.

We really wanted Haskins. No dice.

I also Think we were always too willing to abandon the passing game rather than simplify it. Look at what bama did with Hurts his freshmen year. We just tightened up and ran clock.

Franks has some decent numbers this season, and he's played some pretty good defenses. He seems to be much better of a QB than he was last season.

I think it was both, and it caused a snowball effect. Cameron’s offense definitely put a lot of pressure on the QB to be very accurate to move the chains on third down. Mett with Landry made it viable. I think Cam’s downfall was continuing to recruit raw talent guys like Harris and Franks and trying to teach them accuracy, when it’s one of the hardest things to teach, in a system that absolutely required it.
