You should pose this question on the SEC Rant, but add a qualifier to it, such as...

What percentage of the time do you consider it in good fun vs. rude

... or something like that.

I'm curious.

And IMHO - I think that if you're in a restaurant or airport, etc... and you spot a fan of an opposing SEC team (or Ohio/USC/Tulane/other Louisiana school) in their colors - a brief, good-natured Tigerbaiting with a smile on your face is just acknowledging a fellow sports fan.

I think it is appropriate in all occasions, except ceremonies, with exceptions to the amplitude and duration of the tigerbait. A quick soft "tigerbait" can be suitable on come occasions, like passing someone in a restaurant, where loud and continuous tigerbait is more appropriate for sporting events.

You have far more eloquently stated exactly what I was trying to convey.

No ruder than a gator chomp,a war eagle, a hotty toddy, a roll tide, barking, a cowbell, a sooie pig or whatever else another team's battle cry is. This is college football, that is what college football fans do. If you can't take it, then stay home & watch tv. NOW, should anyone get in a child's face, an old person's face, or get in someone else's personal space to do that? No-& don't think that only happens at LSU, I've been around the SEC, taunting oppossing fans, properly or improperly, happens everywhere.

ps: TIGER BAIT TIGER BAIT TIGER BAIT!!!

We probably don't want to compare ourselves to those assholes (gators). OOO-LA-LA doesn't count.

Why do we tiger bait other fans? I like tiger baiting the other team, when they come out.

I would never tiger bait someone in a public place. Those losers wearing Florida shirts and red hats with the letter "A"?

Every time it's been done to me it was done in a very good natured, playful way. As a rival (Alabama) fan I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

"is tiger baiting visiting fans rude?"

Yes, but that's ok...do it anyway. We don't even know these people.

I think everyone should just tend to their own business. If you want to Tigerbait chant in your OWN tent, go for it, have fun.
Taunting opposing fans is just stupid no matter where you are. You have to grow up sometime. I've just always walked past it. If you're 10, ok. Its a little funny when the thirty and forty somethings are screaming in your face. However, I think tradition impedes here and its a tradition there. As long as you dont touch someone. The problem I've had at TS was students that said things way worse than Tigerbait. Drunk students at any campus bug the shite out of me.

i always considered tiger baiting a friendly gesture of respect to an opposing school's fan base. this past season at the alabama game,
i saw some frat boys & two tall lovely statuesque coeds get in the
face of visiting students before game time , tiger baiting and
shaking pom poms in their faces. you had to see it ,it was way over the line.

The fact that you ask the question, probably indicates that you, personally, don't need the advice on etiquette.

Here's a rule of thumb... don't get in someone's face yelling at them unless you're prepared for the consequences; don't be profane or vulgar to someone with a female or child, ever, and don't do it if same are nearby. Upon these two rules, all the rules of acceptable tigerbaiting are founded.

And, tumping over porta-pottys and setting them on fire is slightly overboard.
