In terms of the general media/public/fans/recruits waiting a couple more years to determine this or this is the year?

2021, PM got his squad(same core group of players) to a super regional after beating pac 12 champ Oregon Ducks in their own regional and home field, against a pretty good Tenner team with players who were freshmen and sophomores on the current team this year.

Dugas
Beloso
Travs
Morgan
Crews
Milazzo
Thompson
Coleman
Edwards
Money
Floyd

This year(2 years later) these same players are much older and more experienced. You add pearson, jobert, skenes and white with a few other average, ok players and a couple freshman, the transfer portal and nil to his dosposal, one world think this season by end of the year the program as a whole would improve? Has it?

With all of this above, can Jay at least make a Super ? If so, can one assume he has improved this program from 2021 in his 2nd year and if he loses esp after losing last yr to an inferior program in the regionals last year, has he improved this team in terms of passing the 2021 results?

I don't know if it's a measuring stick since it's just year 2.

But the honeymoon will be over if we were to go 0-2 in Omaha or *gasps* not make it there with the first team in college baseball that had the top 2 picks in the draft.

If this team doesn’t make it to Omaha it will be a big disappointment. They were the consensus preseason #1 with perhaps the top 2 players in the mlb draft this year.

I would assume that at least making supers or winning it would be an improvement technically and at least doing as well as the 2019 team and going back to 2018 till now.

If they don’t make the CWS with this bracket it will be a shocker

In my view every year is a measuring stick.

CJJ should get all the credit for whatever we win and all the blame for whatever we "should" have won (within reason).

I fully expect us to make Omaha. What happened in Hoover stays in Hoover. Once there, I expect us to win our G1 with Skenes. After that there are a handful of X-factors that will determine how far we advance.

Really pumped about this year's team. Great to be a national seed again.

Every year is a measuring stick year. And when you lose— how do you lose?

But next year is his 3rd, should be settled in. Wes Johnson will have a full offseason to cycle his plan.

Writing out what I think the roster looks like for next year, he has a very large undertaking.

It’s a colossal failure if he doesn’t make it Omaha

in terms of pm vs jj has jj surpassed him? In other words did we upgrade or not? Can this be determined with what happens this weekend?

It is.

Can’t have Lipsey buy the best portal kids available and not at least make Omaha

We upgraded over CPM '18-'21. Whether CJJ will out perform CPM for their respective first couple of years as coach here is TBD.

CPM won the SEC and made Omaha in his year 2. He won the SEC and a natty in year 3.

Don’t really think it’s worthwhile to have a big debate of Johnson vs PM. Ultimately he has to win the big one to be in the same breath. Johnson has a different philosophy and the transfer porter at his disposal. He will likely never win & build rosters in the same manner PM did. But that doesn’t mean he can’t win as frequently

Stop pitting Paul and Jay against each other.

It does no one any good and is a pointless conversation.

Correct. Totally different era in just a couple of years. Total free agency now. Who can buy the best players

Nope, this is just a time when people make up stupid things to post about waiting on the regional to start.

I don’t know Russian, ask someone who gives crap about a former coach. Would it have been fair to say Paul didn’t improve the program over Skip? Paul won with Smoke’s players by all accounts. How’s that?

What good does it do to put one against the other ESPECIALLY with the changes from even 2013 to now?

in terms of season's success, jj hasn't yet. The group the same players past/current is the correlation. Nothing else.

i am not pitting them against each other.

They both coached/are coaching the same group of kids. If jay does not reach a super with this group does this mean that jay has made this team any better since the 2021 super regional group? Its the same group of kids stacked with cpl pf really good addons.

It is of my belief that if jj doesnt win this weekend and at least make the supers, that the coaching overall is a failure and hasnt gotten any better since when pm had this group. Common factor are the group mentioned above. That it.

this isnt about pm, its about jj and how he has progressed in 2 years. You missed the point old man.

Usually when a coach retires, you want to get another one who will bring the team back to new heights. 2021 this same group of players went to the supers, last year this group got beat by USM in the regionals. That wasnt a step up. Hopefully this weekend will be, if not, to me, this team hasnt gotten better. Its the same core group of players. Normally years together and experience, teams improve.

Not sure I understand your point here. But, we're a national this year. We weren't '18 - '21. That's an upgrade.

How would you compare the same players in light of the experience dynamic? It changes. For example, the Dylan Crews '23 version is more experienced than one CPM coached in '21.
