I know two of the three LB spots are locked up with Kwon and Welter (hopefully Beckwith), but does anyone else feel like this coming season is Deion's time to shine? I hear Lamar Louis has taken the lead for the 3rd spot. But does he have better speed and ball skills? Not questioning Chief, just curious...

Does Welter have a spot locked up?

Lamar Louis
Beckwith
Deion Jones
Clifton Garrett

Serious question. I wouldn't think Welter is locked into anything.

Everythig I've read says Welter returns to his starting position at Mike. Hopefully Beckwith goes off in the summer and changes Chief's mind.

I hope Debo starts. He was my favorite recruit a few years ago. Dude can flat out play

I would be shocked if they don't follow the trend and make Welter the starter at the beginning of the season. That's been how they've played it for a few years with returning seniors. Still think he becomes rotational toward the end of the season.

For what it's worth, and perhaps it's not worth much, Beckwith has stated that he was told he's playing middle this year.

Either way, I think Debo sees plenty of time. We will rotate LB's quite a bit this year, IMO.

Debo plays with so much emotion and seems to make an impact nearly every time he's on the field.

Debo is a difference maker when he's on the field, he makes plays in the backfield. With that said he should play a lot of football this yr.

I like Louis at that 3rd spot, I think he's the guy that's being overlooked going into the season.

Did you see when Louis came in last year for Welter? He was awesome, fast and explosive and hit the shite out of RB's. Why did Les and Chief not take the blinders off and start him?

I would be fine with Beck, Kwon, and Louis starting with Debo, Welter, and Garret 2nd string

At the very least Debo should be on the field for passing downs

His speed would also be great for containment on mobile QBs

Going to be hard on the LBs this year. It's always been the DLine holding it together, but I think for us to be successful, the LBs will have to fill that role. We have a good crew though. Like you all have mentioned, Kwon, Debo, Garrett, Beckwith, Louis are all players the fans are, and should, be excited to see.

About a year ago we had a thread about LB's and we look completely different now for the better... I had asked about R. Feist and it seemed he was an afterthought after the Season but he had a good Spring hopefully he can get in on ST's and show whats he got on D... I really thought he was one of the better LB's we had coming in out of High School...

I wouldn't be surprised to see Deion Jones get some starts this year. Even if he doesn't start, I expect him to rotate in a lot. He's a high-energy, rangy LB with good closing speed. He showed that closing speed regularly on special teams last year.

My guess is that is to be determined based on how quickly Beckwith gets acclimated to the position.

The first game against Wisconsin should be telling because that's a game that Welter does not match up well in (based upon his play from last year), whereas Beckwith does match up well in that game.

Wisconsin wants to run the ball between the tackles. At ~250 pounds, that should be a game that plays to Beckwith's strengths. It seems like KB would be better at stuffing the run, taking on the fullback - Derek Watt (J.J. Watt's younger brother), taking on offensive linemen, etc.

Your thread seems to be anchored because of an insufficient title.

You could use this as your Subject:
