I guess it depends on the definition of "program".

It seems you want it to be based on a single point in the season.

If that his the case, then why include Oklahoma?

When I think program, I look at the total package in what the University offers the student athlete and what the fans get in return.

I think we are an elite program that is underperforming.

When WalMart stock drops, does that mean they are not a Fortune 500 company?

You know jackshit, sonnyboy. "Elite" programs don't lose their bowl games, with a month to prepare, to teams like Utah.

Yes, we are at this time a premier program. A year and half off of a BCS National Championship and 2 out of the last 6. We are not playing like a premier team right now but that doesn't discredit what we have done this decade.

Premier programs consistently achieve 9-10+ wins every year and compete for conference/national titles every year.

LSU is on the decline.

7-5 is not a premier program.

Every LSU fan knows we are slowly fading into obscurity with Miles at the helm, and it is painful to admit to and watch.

In terms of national respect garnered from two national titles in a decade, we are still an elite program. In terms of here and now, teams are no longer afraid of LSU. As much as I hate to say it, Alabama has replaced us in that category.

I am sure you had a grand statement to make as the motivation behind this thread, so why don't you just post the typical negative crap so I can anchor this thread and you can go on about your business

Just my opinion

Tier 1
USC - weaker competition, slips on the banana peel, interchangeable stars, can compete with anyone, anywhere
Florida - Tebow, 2 trophies, Zook somewhat recent
Texas - consistent without as many stars
LSU - falling, 2 trophies, potential

Tier 2 - missing "proof"
Alabama - very close, need title or big wins to validate
tOSU - stars, close but no cigar too often
OU - no big wins despite White, Peterson, Bradford

Tier 3 - can hang at best
Va Tech
PSU
UGA

A premier program is a school that can win the national title year in year out.

If that's the prerequisite to be a premier program, then the only team that would be premier by your definition would be Florida right now

Also I think dukkeV is summing it up pretty well. No one us afraid of us

Let them underestimate us, I would love that. I think we will play better without that target on our back.

Also if we beat Bama in three weeks (not saying that we will), what will you say then?

What you are seeing is LSU becoming Miami under their previous coach. A slow downward spiral with Alabama taking their place in the SEC west. Watch and see, its happening.

What are you talking about? LSU was 7-5 last season, therefore it is obvious that the program is declining this year...

To me Florida, USC, Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama are the premier college football programs in the country
next are LSU, Va Tech, Ohio St, Penn St

What bothers most folks is that the current offensively-challenged group of Tigers is probably only 7th or 8th of those nine teams this year and a couple of others above them as well. At least that's where I perceive them to be right now. By season's end they could be higher or lower. Lord help us if they're lower.

Agreed. They aren't playing like an elite team at this time however.
