Looking forward to your responses
Had LSU beaten Saban/Bama on January 9, I'd have said "Yes, Coach Miles is the best coach and motivator in America!" But given what actually happened, what I can say is that *CLM is an erratic and zany coach, who may still reach coaching greatness before it's all over, said and done. Or not... He's definitely one of a kind.

Les is a top 5 coach IMO. Probably top 3. Its hard to say who the "best" is because so many other factors contribute to success besides coaching.

There was no sneeking...LSU players did what they had to do and Nick got out coached. It happens.

Just as Nick got out coached in 2010 when he came to BR with a NC QB, a HT RB, an AA 1st rd pick WR, a 1st rd OL pick, and a 1st rd DL pick and loss to LSU who was QB'ed by 2 guys a lot of posters on here feel to be the worst set of QBs in our history.

And yes...Miles got out coached in his last game.

The SEC has 4 members win BCSCGs recently and leads all BCS conferences with BCS bowl wins (16} cause lots of SEC programs have great college talent and on a regular basis.

Where this idea comes from that LSU has more talent than other elite SEC programs is beyond me.

92 yards is pretty factual

A lot of people could have taken Miles' players and beaten Bama.

Interesting comment. Of course, it is based entirely on speculation.

However, there is actually one coach that did take Mile's players and beat Bama. That coach was Miles.

NO....However, for me absolute frustration comes from the fact that he could be considered the best...if not for a handful of moronic mistakes. He's on the cusp, but just hasn't seemed to been able to take it. The NC was the game that could have pushed him over the top.

So you are disregarding that two years in a row Miles beat Saban, but since Saban got a mulligan and beat us and I now 1-2 in the last three, Miles isn't as good.

Just facts please. saban 3 titles lost just 2 games in those 3 seasons. miles 1 nc lost 2 games, if it where any other season, miles would not have been in the nc game.

Taking the loyalty to LSU out of the equation; how can Les be considered a top 2 or 3 coach, when coaches around the country move 2nd level programs into prominence, like Meyer did at Utah, the coach at Boise St., etc.

I like Les, but the potential at LSU post Saban is off the charts.

OK facts miles is 2-1 against Saban in the last three. If Saban is considered the best coach then Miles can't be far behind. Also we all saw how CUM team was without Trbow

Threads like this really amaze me.

I've had my issues with Miles in the past, but simply put, he's easily a Top 5 coach in America.

That's saying a lot, yet the majority of fans here still hate him.

Instead of being thankful for the record the past three years with the QB situation, he gets more grief.

Remember, the Saban, who is obviously a great coach in his own right, is the one that needed a second chance to beat Miles in 2011. Not the other way around. Not to mention Miles went through one of the gauntlets in the history of the friggin sport with only ONE close game.....on the road......to the team/coach that got the second chance.

If you are going to hold Miles to Saban standards in 2011, at least be fair about it...

Then review what Bama did against Miles in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. Bama STRUGGLED to beat Miles' worse teams in 2008 and 2009. The great Saban should not have struggled the way he did against "lowly" miles those two seasons with the teams he had.

Les is top five in the country easily. And he can beat anyone else in that group on any given day. But he's not the best in the country. That's Saban. Without doubt.

That said, I love Les Miles except when I want to kill him.

Serious question:

With all things being fair, and Saban NOT getting the unprecedented MULLIGAN in 2011...

If Miles goes on to win his second title in 2011, against that schedule, would you (and other posters who agree with this) still be saying the same thing?

I bet not.

But at this point, I agree with your assesment.

There is something to said for maintaining a program as well....look at Utah after UM left...they averaged 5 L's a season for 3 yrs...UM leaves Flor and they go 7-6...Carr leaves Mich after winning 75% of his games and RR wins 40% of his games at Mich.

Nick leaves 7 yrs ago after winning 75% of his games and Les improves that to 80%.

We were fortunate to get Nick and we have been just as fortunate to have gotten and kept Les.

I don't mind Les being #2 because when he tries, #1 isn't much of a challenge for him.

Saban vs Miles: This appears to be the real topic up for debate. I think in the long run Les will prevail. We shall see.... Great to see them play every year! Keep the faith. Geaux Tigers!

The best college football coach in America is Larry Kehres.

Record since 1992: 269-12
Five of the losses were in the national title game, ten of the wins were too.

Nick Saban is a piker.
