An Inclusive List of LSU Athletics' Top 5 Sports:

1. Football top 10 program nationally
2. Basketball top 16 program nationally
3. Baseball top program nationally (now sell beer)
4. Gymnastics top 10 program nationally
5. Softball top 10 program nationally

It feels like a fine time to be a Tiger fan. Discuss.

Your bolded the wrong part.

He’s hired 3 BAsketball coaches and 2 were complete turds. I hate giving a guy lots of credit for getting it right multiple hires down the road.

Of course it is. When you have someone as poised as Alleva available for hire, you make it. It doesn't matter if he had just ruined all those kids' lives at Duke or not.

I mean LSU has been a top 10 program for a long time.

But we haven’t been a top 10 program with beer for a long time. That’s progress

No Joe Alleva gets no credit for anything good that happens at LSU. If anything good happens it is because someone who works for Joe Alleva did it. - the rant.

I was under that impression too but maybe I just dont understand how that capital one cup thing works, the one that ranks ncaa athletics annually? The schools on this list must just have a lot of irrelevant sports that they excel at because I feel like LSU is on the map in most all televised sports but hardly ever receive any points in the mens and womens cup standings, yet schools like Akron and Eastern Washington are always near the top.

Those sports are less relevant, but agree that we are doing well all across much of the board in the athletic department.

Alleva's just waiting for a scandal so he can throw intramural football under the bus.

As bad as I hate Alleva he is somewhat responsible for a few things. He had the foresight to hire O which looks like the right choice as time passes. There's a certain group that will disagree with that no matter what but they're usually not very knowledgeable about things and should be ignored.

The Capital One Cup employs a two-tiered scoring system in which certain sports (called "Group B") are valued more highly than others (labeled "Group A"). Schools' performances in the Group B sports earn three times as many points as those in Group A.

In its seven-year history, the Capital One Cup has revised its scoring structure on several occasions to adjust such factors as the number of tiers, the inclusion/exclusion of certain sports, and the tier designation of the included sports

Group A men's sports include cross country, skiing, rifle, water polo, indoor track & field, outdoor track & field, wrestling, fencing, swimming & diving, ice hockey, gymnastics, volleyball, tennis, and golf.

Group B men's sports
include soccer, football (FCS), football (FBS), basketball, lacrosse, and baseball.

Group A women's sports
include field hockey, cross country, skiing, rifle, indoor track & field, outdoor track & field, swimming & diving, ice hockey, fencing, bowling, gymnastics, water polo, tennis, golf, rowing, and beach volleyball.

Group B women's sports include soccer, volleyball, basketball, lacrosse, and softball.

Stanford used to and still may win the Sear's Cup every year. They were one of a few schools that had water polo, fencing, field hockey, rowing, sailing, squash, men's gymnastics and wrestling.

I don't know if all the sports are included in the Sear's cup but Stanford used to win just on the sheer volume of sports they participate in. They currently have 36 varsity sports at Stanford.

Joe Alleva has made some mistakes in his tenure at LSU. He has also done some good things like hire WW and lead the SEC fight for beer in stadia. LSUAD is on sound financial footing and the huge contribution to the school continues. These last two things are why he is still employed.

Note: If it had been left up to me I would have terminated him awhile back.

Yes, but he gets a smaller percentage of responsibility than the rest the Associate ADs, TAF, and of course the coaches & players that are putting in the blood sweat and tears.

Steve Jobs was the face of Apple but who was really doing all of the engineering, designing, etc., for all of their products?

I've been one to talk shyte about Alleva for a while now, but he's been getting it on track lately. I'll wait and see how it goes from here, but right now I think I have to hold him in high esteem. he's doing a pretty damned decent job!

I've met with Alleva and Scott Pruitt (UF)

There are stark differences between the two men.

One is a rudderless figurehead, the other is a leader in tune with the needs of his campus

I'll let you choose which is which...

Not baseball nor gymnastics and it took him multiple tries on basketball. The key will be how he handles Wade when a deep-pocket ACC school who cares about basketball comes calling for him
