Or is he to valuable as a closer, I don't see anyone mentioning him as a starter

If hes not needed Friday (Lange complete game) then he could definitely back up Gilbert Saturday in long relief

And if hes not needed for long relief and pitches < 30 on Saturday he could possibly start Game 2 of Championship series.

It all just depends

That would be nice with Gilbert with a short hook

I think you have to keep Hess as a closer and trust Gilbert to step up and fill in for Walker while some guys like Bain or Reynolds come in and give some clutch setup innings.

In 3 games in the CWS he has pitched 1.1 innings but in reality its been less than that.

I say you get this guy in the game as much as possible starting Friday if you need him, but definitely on Saturday.

He's a possible start 2nd game. He's the only guy you will have left that can give you 5 dominant innings. You would still have Gilbert to give you 2, the rest of the guys to clean up an inning and Newman.

If Lange can go the distance or we have a nice lead, Hess is a real possibility to start. It's hard to take him out of such an automatic role right now, but he's fearless and you have to do what it takes to win at that point.

we're all rooting for Lange to go the distance Friday, then a Gilbert/Hess combo Sat

NO. He's not a starter this year. He throws to hard to sustain that for multiple innings. Now throwing him in there in the 6-7th may be an option

This is what separates baseball from other sports - strategy during & between games - guesing game 2 starter - tough call to beat this OSU team twice

Hopefully Lange can deal. That way you have Gilbert hopefully for at least 4, but 5 would be ideal. Then Hess for 3ish. And hopefully a lead/cushion cause I'm scared of Norman or anybody else at the moment. Need a nice lead so you have time to realize "yeah, this ain't gonna work"

he will be a last resort start for the reminder of the year. Dunn has said multiple times after his starts that he didnt do well starting bc he was trying to manage his stamina and started to think too much out there. in the role now he just gasses up and slings it without thinking about managing his stamina.

I wouldn't mind seeing him get about a 3 inning save on Saturday.

Too valuable out the pen to close or get us out a late inning jam
