Rewatching some of flott’s tape, he really excelled when he played nickel. He has elite quickness and foot speed and quick in and out of his breaks. Vincent has the speed and improved throughout the season but his hips are still fairly stiff. His speed seems like a much better fit at FS and flott’s change of direction is a better fit at nickel. Imo the corners should be ricks and stingley on the outside, flott in the slott and Vincent at FS. Thoughts?

I really think Vincent would be a good safety. He did amazing when he played Safety last year.

Flott will probably play the outside in place of Fulton, I suppose. Got a nice group of corners with Ricks coming.

I think vincent is gonna have a difficult time taking that slot position from Flott after spring.

I have also heard that R. Jones is the best kept secret on this team and might be the outside corner opposite Stingley.

in my opinion i would say yes...Vincent's speed roaming the field would be lethal

Vincent is a nickle guy all the way. He's our center fielder.

Vincent played better at the end of the season in nickel. He played more consistent at safety though. All depends what Bo wants to do with the personnel.

if it were up to me, being that Coach O said they're gonna run a lot of 2-high looks this year, I'd have:

Derek Stingley Jr. - CB
Elias Ricks - CB
Kary Vincent Jr. - FS
Jacoby Stevens/Todd Harris Jr./Mo Hampton/Eric Monroe/Jordan Toles - SS

Cordale Flott/Jay Ward - Nickel

Honestly all 5 of those guys at strong safety can play. I don't think Jacoby Stevens will usually be one of the 2 guys back deep in 2-high looks, but rather he'll move around to outside backer, rover, whatever you want to call it. Basically a monster back that roams the field. Mo and Todd won't be in spring ball, and neither will Kary, so we'll be able to see what Eric Monroe and Toles can do in providing depth. I believe Todd (pending his recovery) and Mo will be splitting time at Strong Safety in 2-high looks because of their experience there and how well they did in the past. Not to mention, those close to Todd Harris say that he's absolutely JACKED right now, and has put on a good bit of muscle. I think this coming year could end up being one of the best DB groups of the past 10 years. Speed, toughness, experience, you name it.

Kary Vincent Jr.'s cross-field pick against Oklahoma thoroughly convinced me that he was born to play free safety. He can cover the length of the field in an instant.

Track sprinters tend to have tighter hips, which is why you saw Kary get beat often on double moves or hard-breaking routes when he was at nickel. He just couldn't settle his hips down fast enough to react, but being at free safety would alleviate that problem for him. Having Marcel Brooks and Devonta Lee at LB will help because of their speed in getting to the flat, which alleviates problems for whoever the nickel is.

Raydar Jones and Cam Lewis are my sleeper picks at either CB or nickel, and nickel or safety, respectively. We have an embarrassment of riches in the secondary, hallelujah.

First we need to know if we will play 3 safeties as Aranda did or something entirely different.
I do agree on your observations about Flott at nickel.
Also, what about Harris.

You’ve never seen Ricks play, but you think he should be a starter? Hope is not a strategy.
